Despite challenges, we continued to deliver programmes that strenthened our community and promoted our charitable objectives The trustees have adopted the provisions of the Statement of Recommended Practice (SORP) 'Accounting and Reporting by Charities issued March 2005 ## **COMMENCEMENT OF ACTIVITIES** IGBO Progressive Union registered as a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO) in June 2020, marking the beginning of our mission to make a positive impact on our community. ## **STRUCTURE, GOVERNANCE AND MANAGEMENT** ## **Governing document** IGBO Progressive Union is governed by its constitution. The board of Trustees is responsible for strategic direction, governance and financial oversight. Trustees are elected in accordance with the Constitution and meet regularly to oversee the activities of the Union. The Trustees have collectively reviewed the major risks facing the organisation and are satisfied that appropriate systems of internal control are in place ## **RISK MANAGEMENT** The Trustees regularly review potential risks including: - Financial sustainability - Governance and regulatory compliance - Data protection - Health and safety at community events - Volunteer recruitment and retention Appropriate policies and procedures are maintained to minimise these risks ## **OBJECTIVES AND ACTIVITIES** ## **Statement of Objectives and Public Benefit** The objectives of the Union are to: - Promote Igbo culture, language and heritage - Support the welfare and wellbeing of members - Encourage educational development and youth participation - Organise cultural, social and charitable events - Foster unity among members and collaboration with other communities - Provide relief and assistance to members facing hardship where respources permit ## **PUBLIC BENEFIT STATEMENT** The Trustees confirm that they have had due regard to the Charity Commissions guidance on public benefit when planning and carrying out the Unions activities. The Union exists to promote community cohesion, preserve cultural heritage and provide support that benefits members of the public and the wider community. Page 2 **IGBO Progressive Union UK Report of the Trustees (Cont'd) for the Year Ended 30th November 2024** ## **Achievements and Performance** During the reporting period, the Uniuon successfully: - Held monthly executive and general meetings - Organised annual cultural celebrations showcasing Igbo traditions - Supported members during bereavement, illness and family emergencies - Celebrated important national and cultural events - Encouraged youth participation through cultural and educational activities - Worked collaboratively with other African community organisation across the UK - Continued to promote peace, unity and mutual support among members The Trustees believe that these activities have advanced the Union's charitable purposes and delivered public benefit through community cohesion, education and cultural preservation ## **Financial Review** Compared to the previous year, Income from Donations, grants and interest have increased by £18,930. Expenses have increased by £8,340 giving a surplus of £10,590. Together with the surplus brought forward, the Union is in a plus position of £16,304. It was decided to defer £11,500 of this surplus to 2024/2025. The Trustees remain satisfied that the organisation is financially stable and continues to manage its resources responsibly ## **Plans for the coming year** As well as expanding on its current activities the Union intends to develop digital communication and member engagement ## **Trustees Responsibilites** The Trustees are responsible for preparing the Annual Report and ensuring that appropriate accounting records are maintained in accordance with applicable law and the governing document of the Union. ## **Approval** This report was approved by the Board of Trustees on the 26th June 2026 Pastor Anthony C Amadikwa Chair of Trustees Page 3 ## **Independent Examiner’s Report to the Trustees of IGBO Progressive Union** I report on the accounts of the charity for the year ended 30th November 2024, which are set out on pages 5 to 9. ## **Respective Responsibilities of the Trustees and Examiner** The charity's trustees are responsible for the preparation of the accounts. The charity’s trustees consider that an audit is not required for this year under section 144 of the Charities Act 2011 (the Charities Act) and that an independent examination is needed. It is my responsibility to: - examine the accounts under section 145 of the Charities Act, - to follow the procedures laid down in the general Directions given by the Charity Commission (under section 145(5)(b) of the Charities Act, and - to state whether particular matters have come to my attention. ## **Basis of Independent Examiner’s Statement** My examination was carried out in accordance with general Directions given by the Charity Commission. An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the charity and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records. It also includes consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts, and seeking explanations from the trustees concerning any such matters. The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit, and consequently no opinion is given as to whether the accounts present a ‘true and fair’ view and the report is limited to those matters set out in the statement below. ## **Independent Examiner’s Statement** There are no issues 1. which gives me reasonable cause to believe that in, any material respect, the requirements: - to keep accounting records in accordance with section 130 of the Charities Act; and · to prepare accounts which accord with the accounting records and comply with the accounting requirements of the Charities Act have not been met; or 2. to which, in my opinion, attention should be drawn in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached. The directors have not required the company to obtain an audit in accordance with section 476 of the Act. The directors acknowledge their responsibilities for complying with the requirements of the Companies Act 2006 with respect to accounting records and the preparation of accounts. The accounts have been prepared and delivered in accordance with the special provisions applicable to companies subject to the small companies regime. ACCOUNTING POLICIES** ## **Accounting convention** The financial statements have been prepared under the historical cost convention, and in accordance with the Financial Reporting Standard for Smaller Entities (effective April 2008), the Charities Act 2011 and the requirements of the Statement of Recommended Practice, Accounting and Reporting by Charities. ## **Incoming resources** All incoming resources are included on the Statement of Financial Activities when the charity is legally entitled to the income and the amount can be quantified with reasonable accuracy. ## **Resources expended** Expenditure is accounted for on an accruals basis and has been classified under headings that aggregate all cost related to the category. Where costs cannot be directly attributed to particular headings they have been allocated to activities on a basis consistent with the use of resources. ## **Tangible fixed assets** The Charity has no fixed assets ## **Taxation** The charity is exempt from tax on its charitable activities. ## **Fund accounting** Unrestricted funds can be used in accordance with the charitable objectives at the discretion of the trustees. Restricted funds can only be used for particular restricted purposes within the objects of the charity. Restrictions arise when specified by the donor or when funds are raised for particular restricted purposes. The Union had no Restricted Funds during the year. ## **2.
