Very difficult year for the Gym. As we prepared for our annual fund raising event and exhibition in March the UK went into lock down, obviously this meant closing our doors.
Our concerns turned immediately to our members especially the more vulnerable, those at higher risk of COVID-19 and those we knew would struggle with the solitude of lock down.
Through various creative initiatives we managed to support our members and through our community spirit and our family ethos we tried to ensure that all our members had the support they needed.
Summary of the main activities undertaken for the public benefit in relation to these objects (include within this section the statutory declaration that trustees have had regard to the guidance issued by the Charity Commission on public benefit)
It was testament to our great members and the social conscience that we try to embed in all our members that the club was able to step forward to support each other with regular check ins and buddying up with other members to offer support from a simple phone call to shopping or walking other members dogs. It really was heart warming and proved that we had travelled some way along the path that we had set out on many years ago to make the community a better place to live in.
During the summer months when allowed to open we did so, when it was safe and responsible too. It was magical for all the members that could join us however it was relatively short lived as we were asked to close again prior to Christmas.
However, I’m happy to share that we were also able to help many members of the gym over lock down two as the spirit, concern and action demonstrated in March was soon rekindled, even with an online Christmas party and numerous zoom quizzes. The countless thanks you cards and messages of support has really has highlighted how special Prizefighter ABC is.

Section D Achievements and performance
Summary of the main achievements of the charity during the year
Ironically it has probably taken a global pandemic to demonstrate our greatest achievement to date. Not the countless honours and national titles we have won, but instead it was how our members reacted to the crisis. Not only as highlighted above by supporting other members but offering themselves to the wider community.
We were so proud of our many members who are essential workers who stepped up to serve the community, indeed many of whom were in the roles due to support that the gym had given them.
Moreover, our members went out into the community volunteering for many charities and supporting those who need it.
Whilst 2020 will probably the worst year for our support for the professional development of our members it was probably the greatest for the emotional development and the realization for them of the true value of our community.
We at Prizefighter are exceptionally proud of every one of our great members who ensured that COVID-19 would not beat our community.

-
The charity’s trustees consider that an audit is not required for this year under section 144 of the Charities Act 2011 (the Charities Act) and that an independent examination is needed. It is my responsibility to:
-
examine the accounts under section 145 of the Charities Act,
-
to follow the procedures laid down in the general Directions given by the Charity Commission (under section 145(5)(b) of the Charities Act, and
-
to state whether particular matters have come to my attention.
-
Basis of independent My examination was carried out in accordance with general Directions given examiner’s statement by the Charity Commission. An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the charity and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records. It also includes consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts, and seeking explanations from the trustees concerning any such matters. The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit, and consequently no opinion is given as to whether the accounts present a ‘true and fair’ view and the report is limited to those matters set out in the statement below.
Independent In connection with my examination, no matter has come to my attention examiner's statement (other than that disclosed below *)
-
which gives me reasonable cause to believe that in, any material respect, the requirements:
-
to keep accounting records in accordance with section 130 of the Charities Act; and
-
to prepare accounts which accord with the accounting records and comply with the accounting requirements of the Charities Act
-
have not been met; or
-
to which, in my opinion, attention should be drawn in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.
