1.0 Introduction
Midzi is a recently registered charity operating in England, Wales, Malawi and Zimbabwe. During the period under review, the charity set out to achieve the following objects.
1) To preserve and protect the good health and well-being of women and girls, particularly, but not exclusively, concerning all areas of female reproductive and sexual health including but not exclusively by:
-
The provision of educational outreach programmes, materials and other forms of information; and
-
Providing support to attend conferences, workshops and exchange programmes
2) To relieve the needs of women and girls, particularly, but not exclusively, those who have experienced, or are at risk of experiencing, sexual and gender-based violence by providing education and access to support structures to assist women and girls live dignified lives free from violence
1.1 Outreach and Operations
The charity was not spared by Covid-19 disruptions due to lockdowns that affected travel, outreach and planned fundraising activities. However, to achieve Object 2, the charity harnessed the power of social media to fundraise for girls at risk of getting into child marriage in Zimbabwe. The charity raised £1500 from donations. The funds were used to support our strategic goal of promoting girls’ education. We are currently supporting 11 girls who are at risk of getting into child marriage with their educational needs. The funds were specifically used to pay fees, school uniforms, menstrual health supplies and books for 11 girls at Neshangwe and Trelawney Primary Schools in Mbire and Zvimba Districts in Zimbabwe.
2.0 Future Plans
The charity will scale up its fundraising drive and aim to reach to 100 girls who are fully supported with their educational needs. The charity will also embark on long term projects that economically empower the young women and girls that are being supported under the second chance education initiative.
