In this Lions year Forest of Dean Lions collected donations at Tesco, Lydney for the displaced persons in the Russian war against Ukraine. In all, £8,959 were passed to Lions Clubs International for the LIONS CAMPAIGN 100 UKRAINE.

Volunteers from the community enable us to run these two major events. Without the volunteers freely donating their time and expertise we would have much less funds to draw on throughout the year.

As well as providing grants to deserving causes within GL15 and GL16 post code areas and some international disasters, Forest of Dean Lions Club undertakes a number of community service projects. For example, a “Forest Champions” event was held to highlight and celebrate achievements of individuals and groups within our community.

## Section D Achievements and performance

**Summary of the main achievements of the charity during the year**

In the 2021 to 2022 Lions year normal activities were resumed following the COVID 19 pandemic. In addition, a Forest Champions event was held to highlight and celebrate achievements of individuals and groups within our community.

The Grant of £8,959 sent to Lions Clubs International to benefit the displaced persons in Ukraine, included £2,000 in donations collected by ‘Packed with Love’, ‘Bream Coffee Shop’ and ‘Bream Sports Club’. The sentiment of members of the public and Tesco, Lydney enabled the donations to be collected very quickly. Volunteers also aided the Lions with the collections.

Further Grants to the value of £7,077 were made to local recipients and £250 to the Tonga volcanic eruption appeal. The Forest Champions event was very well received in the community. Awards were made within 7 categories: Young Achiever, Local Hero, Innovative Educator, Outstanding Contributor to the Community, Community Award, Lifetime Achievement and Healthcare.

The Wild Boar Chase mountain bike ride* in September was well supported with well over 500 entries. The Humbug Chase - a section for accompanied junior rider saged 8-12 years , had a full entry of 45 entries.

The Speech House Fireworks* in November was ticket-only and was sold-out. The display was enjoyed by local families and children. Children of Primary School age and younger had free entry.

* jointly organised with Severn Dean Lions Club. Both these events were well supported by volunteer helpers from the community.
