The advancement of the protection of the public, in particular but not exclusively children and young people, by the provision of talks, workshops, training and by such other means as the trustees shall think fit on the positive and safe use of social media designed to protect them from harm arising from its incorrect or unsafe use, and from contact with unsuitable material on the Internet or similar media. |
|---|---|
| The trustees follow the guidance of the Charity Commission to ensure the activities of Positive Social are for the public benefit. The charity works with schools and other groups to teach young people to use social media positively and constructively and to avoid the negatives, such as bullying, addiction, self worth issues and hindering, future career prospects. Young people gain an understanding of how social media can provide opportunities for the future and promote community cohesion. Social media is an inescapable part of young people’s lives and of the world that surrounds them. When used in the right way, it can have a positive impact on the young people, if not it can have a very negative impact and can lead to addiction, relationship issues, self worth issues and self harm. Positive Social also delivers sessions for teachers, leaders, parents and carers, equipping them with the knowledge they need to support young people in their social media use and through any issues that may arise. A schools worker from another local charity has been trained to deliver Positive Social sessions, increasing capacity for session delivery going forward. |

Section D Achievements and performance Positive Social was very pleased to see an increase in demand for its Summary of the main sessions during 2022-23. The charity began receiving regular enquiries achievements of the charity from the start of the 2022-23 academic year, as schools became more during the year open to having external visitors again following the COVID pandemic. These enquiries were received from schools in the area local to the charity’s base in Derbyshire, as well as from other areas of England. They resulted in the delivery of a total of 23 sessions - 19 to young people, two to parents and two to teachers. The sessions took place in five schools – one state primary, three state secondary, one private preparatory and one private secondary – as well as one college. All of the young people’s sessions resulted in commitments to change behaviour on social media, such as checking privacy settings and leaving social networks that didn’t make people feel good when using them. The parents’ and teachers’ sessions equipped attendees to support their young people. The charity was also able to deliver 2 online parents’ sessions for parents of children of any age and attending any school, making sessions available to a wider group. Section E Financial review N/A Brief statement of the charity’s policy on reserves Details of any funds materially N/A in deficit Further financial review details (Optional information) You may choose to include additional information, where relevant about: the charity’s principal sources of funds (including any fundraising); how expenditure has supported the key objectives of the charity; investment policy and objectives including any ethical investment policy adopted.
