Throughout the year, we continued to deliver a vibrant programme of events designed to enhante visitor
experlence and br03den audience engagement. Returnlng favourites including Snowdrop Sensation, Spring
Fling, The Great Comp Summer Show and Bulbs'n, Things remalned popular highli8ht5 Wlthin the calendar. We
also signSficantly expanded our Dpen-air theatre programme for 2025, welcoming both Chan8elinB Theatre and
the touring company Illyria. Production5 intluded Shake5peare'5 Twelfth NighL Pride & Prejudice, and The Wind
in the Willows, helping us attratt both existing audiences and new family visitors to the g3rden. All
performances 501d out. dernonstrating the growing popularlty of outdoor cultural events at Great Comp.
We were also delighted to host an oversubscribed historical talk on the history of Great Comp by Frances
Thompson, the Ereat-great niece of Vera Cox, who lived at Great Comp for many decades in the early 19CAls, and
inherrced the estate from Frances Heron-Ma%well. Frances shared fascinating personal insights into Vera Cox's
remarkable life and legacy. Vera was 3 significant figure in women's hockey, Se￿ed in the Wornen's Land Army
during the Second World War, and was aw¥rdÈd an honour for her services to the country. The talk highlighted
the rich 50¢ial and cultural history connected to Great Comp and generated considerable interest.
A Major operational development during the year was the irnplementation of a new digital ticketing and
mernber5hip system. Vennersys, in February 2025. Thi5 replaced 3 long-standing paper-based admissions and
membeiship process with a modern integr3ted digital platform. The new system enables Vi51tors to purchase
titkets and mernberships online, renew memberships digita11y, and allows the charity to ¢ommunicBte more
effectively with 5UF)POrters and annual pass members. Addition81 benefit5 include integrated Glft Aid processin8,
utomated renÈwal remlnders, dlrect debit rnemberships, online event bookings, enhanced security for
membership passes, and opportunitie5 forfuture secondary $31es growth. The introduction of Vennersy5
represents an important Investment In the long-term sustainability and effi￿enCY of the charity's vi51tor
operations.
During 2025, significant time and resources were also dedicated to developing a majorfunding application to
the National Lottery Heritage Fund INLHFI, fo51owing more than a year of strategic planning and consultation to
establish 3 long-term vision for Great Comp. The proposed project included the restoration and opening of
additional areas of Great Cofnp House to the pubjlc, tne renovaLion Of Ihe siabie Theatre. and tlir rOntytructS(>
of a new greenhouse to 5UPPOrt horticultural prop3gation. workshops, 3nd pr3Ctical garden operètions.
Whllst the application was ultlmately unsuccessful due to the highly competltive nature of the funding
programTne. feedback from the National Lottery Heritage Fund was extremely posltive. The organisation
encouraged Great Comp to continue developing its relationship with them and to con5idersubmitting a future
application. Trustees remain confidEnt that the e￿enSIVe work undertaken a5 part of this process h35 helped
Èstablish a strong strategic wsion for the future developmeni of the garden and charity.
Coath visitor nuTnbers continued to remain strong. reflecting the sustsined recovery and growth of the group
travel market. Membership engagement also increased significantly following the introduction of the new
ticketing sV5tem, with growing opportunities to strengthen communication and long-term re13tionship5 Wlth
supporters.
