Objectives and Activities
The club raised funding through various activities throughout the year, the regular
ones being the annual Shirfey Camival. a Beer Festival. a plant sale, and
Chnstmas Sleigh collection. Funds raised are then used to make donations and
support local and intemational humanitsrian projects decided upon by the members
of Shirley Lions Club.
The activities undertaken are enjoyed by the local community and other local
charities and community groups are invrted to join in ath'vities to raise their profile
and to supplement their own fundraising activits'es.
Donations to individuals and organisations are considered on a case-by-case basis
and voted upon by club members.
The charity does not use Social Investrnent but instead relies on a mixture of
donations, grants, fundraising fijnctions, and sponsorship In ensuring that this is
successful, activities are posted on social media highlighting how funds have been
spent on activits'es and donations as well as requesting support where appropriate.
The members pay an annual subscnptson to cover the administrative costs of
running the club with their main contn'bution coming from giving their time freely.
Achievements and Perforniance
Approximately 31,000 people benefitted from the club's activities, this includes local
people benefitting from focmjbank donab'ons, receiving free prostate testing, and
community events such as Shirley Camival, the Christmas sleigh collection, and our
annual New Year paty for the elderly of Shidey. In addrtion. the club made various
donatsons of over £16,000. The majorty of the donations were for local causes, but
some funds were also sent via the Lion Clubs Intemational Foundab'on in support of
Intemational disasters.
The club continues to support the Lion5 competition for Young Ambassador of the
21st Century by identifying candidates and supporting them through the competitson
process. This is a competition which recognises and rewards youngsters between
the ages of 16 and 19 who have given significant service to their local community.
Youngsters betr￿n the ages of 8-18 are encouraged and supported to become
actsvely engaged in voluntary work in the local community. through the Lions Young
Leaders in Service project.
The club is also acttve in distributing the Lions Message in a Bottle to vulnerable
people and other charities. This helps the emergency ServI￿S to save valuable time

in identifying an individual quickty and knowing rf they have any allergies or tske
special medication.
Used spectacles are collected from local opticians and other outlets on a monthly
basis and tsken to the Lions national headquarters for sorb.ng and onwards
distribution to nations across the world. The large increase in the number of people
benefitting from our activities is due to the increased number of spectacles collected
and members volunteering to assist with sorting the spectacles at our nats'onal H Q .
Financial Review
All activities are undertaken by members, frdmily, and friends. In this accounts'ng
period this accounted for a total of 1.450 hours, all of which was on a voluntary
basis.
Funds re￿iVed from the public for a specific cause e.g. prostate tests'ng, are held as
restricted funds and utilised for that purpose with any surplus being held for the
following year's event
Shirley Lions does not have any large regular commitments so any reduction in
income means that there has to be a corresponding reduction in donations, unb'l
other fijndraising activities can found. Budgets for donations are reduced ensuring
that there are sts"Il funds available to cover unexpected emergency requests for
support.
Structure, Govemance and Management
Whilst the club uses a standard Lion Clubs Constitution. the Trust Deed is modified
by locally approved By-Laws. Trustees are appointed each year. being the persons
holding the post of President. Secretary. T￿asUrer, plus Immediate Past President
and Vice President Club where possible andlor a member of Shirley Lions Club as
elected by the dub members.
