## **TRUSTEES’ REPORT FOR THE YEAR ENDED 1 OCTOBER 2023**

The trustees present their report and the financial statements of Marcelona Sports Foundation for the year ended October 2023.

These have been prepared in accordance with the Companies Act 2006, the Charities Act 2011, the Charities Statement of Recommended Practice applicable to charities preparing their accounts in accordance with the financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland (FRS 102) (effective 1 January 2019).

## **Objectives and Activities**

The objective of the charity as set out in its governing document is to increase physical activity and productivity in young people, using sports to improve their physical and mental health and to engage them into/back into education, training and employment.

Our aim is to increase education and employment opportunities to the disadvantaged young people from the most deprived areas in London. The highest percentage of those participating in our programmes are from black and Asian communities and are in need of Mental Health Support.

We aim to provide facilities in the interest of social welfare for recreation, or other leisure time occupation, of individuals who have need of such facilities by reason of their youth, age, infirmity or disability, financial hardship or social circumstances with the object of improving their conditions of life.

Ultimately, we are using our participants love for football and sports to invite them into education and training opportunities that will improve their prospects and quality of life.

In doing so we aim to see a reduction in unemployment rates, improve the academic aspirations and achievements of our participants and ultimately affect change whereby young people’s opportunities and successes are not disproportionately affected by their social and demographic background.

## **Achievements and Performance**

In 2022/2023 Marcelona Sports Foundation and its Trustees continued to implement foundations for several projects that would use football and sports to help keep young people engaged and active, including during the evenings when antisocial behaviour and crime rate peaks and to support them in line with our purpose and visions.

We have worked with the local council, other local charities and organisations to help get vulnerable young people and adults in training and education whilst setting up the platform to do this more independently via the charity.

This year we successfully secured funding from a local college and received £5k to fund an entrepreneurial workshop for post 18 young people.

We delivered weekly community sessions of over 30 hours of physical activity each week in North and East London.

We supported 70 16-19 year olds into full time education, with 99% advancing onto HE courses, apprenticeships or employment.

We had 267 young people supported and engaged in sports and physical activities.

We also established a relationship with a local organisation for an upcoming collaboration on expanding our development centres to reach even more young people and to develop our sports and activities in line with demand.

## **Financial Review**

In the year ended October 2023, the charity received income of £5,000 against expenditure of £4,988. The charity carried forward £12 at October 2023 which consisted of £12 in restricted funds.

The charity does not currently employ any staff, nor does it have any overheads or liabilities.

The charity holds zero reserves, as current funds are restricted by a particular purpose.

The trustees consider that a plan for a minimum reserve of at least 3-6 months of the charities operating budget is sensible to ensure stability and continuance of its activities, particularly in the event of a significant drop in funding. This period allowing the charity to review and action additional fund-raising activities.

This is considered to be the best plan moving forward as we prepare to increase our fund-raising activities in line with the demand and increase in participants.
