## NASSMA Annual Report 2023 Reporting period: 02/01/2022 to 01/01/2023 NASSMA’s objective is to advance the education of the public in the subjects of science, technology, engineering and maths (also known as STEM), with a focus on the MENA region in particular, but not exclusively, by: - (a) organising educational events, conferences and summer schools, and; - (b) providing scholarships for scientific researchers, students and professionals in the educational and training sector in order to facilitate their attendance at such events. The main activity of NASSMA in the reporting period was the organisation of the NASSMA AI4Science event which took place during the week 12-16 December 2022 in Rabat, Morocco. The event was organised in partnership with UM6P (Universite Mohammed 6 Polytechnic University) and MASCIR (the Morrocan Foundation for Advanced Science, Innovation and Research). The workshop featured lectures on the applications of AI to scientific discovery and was aimed at researchers, students, and engineers. The web page of the event is: https://ai4science.nassma.ai/. ## Income and expenses for the reporting period The sole income of NASSMA during the reporting period was in the form of a sponsorship donation by Google DeepMind, amounting to £18,000, for the AI4Science 2022 event. This donation was primarily used to financially support participants attending the event, i.e., to cover their transportation, accommodation, and subsistence costs. This financial support took the form of reimbursements upon submission of receipts and were processed in 2023 (outside of the reporting period). Furthermore, all the logistical expenses associated with the organisation of the event were covered by our partners in Morocco, namely UM6P and Mascir.
