Core Values

– Integrity The quality of being honest and having strong moral principles. The state of being whole and undivided. Basically, doing what you say you are going to do, when you say you are going to do it and how you say you are going to do it

– Mindfulness The quality or state of being conscious or aware of something. First awareness of self, then others. Being conscious and considered in our approach – when we act, when we speak and how we live.

– Nondisruptive Creation Where one’s gain does not have to come at the expense of others. A new way of thinking where untouched opportunities abound. We need to alter our perception of fundraising, we should not be competing in this field, we should be leading through creativity. We need to inspire people to give.

– Empowerment Firstly by empowering ourselves with the tools and information to make a difference. Then by empowering organisations, groups, communities, and society to make lasting changes, to make better choices, and to create opportunities. Empowerment should be done in transparent, meaningful, and lasting ways.

To protect, rehabilitate, conserve, and preserve historical habitats of biodiverse value, and associated species, in southern Africa.

Vision

To become the leading science-based project funding conservation charity defined by the highest ethical standards and driven by our core values.

Objectives

To secure and protect biodiverse habitats, and associated species, crucial for conservation, preservation, and forming linkages and corridors between existing reserves

To support sustainable and community owned projects in rural communities surrounding critical biodiverse areas that are linked to conservation or enhance the local support for conservation, with particular focus on nature, health, skills development, and engaging education.

2022 / 2023 Demonstrated what was predicted in last years annual report and difficult times ahead.

With us not able to secure any of the experience tours that were going to be crucial on the South African side in funding the overheads and heading towards a worldwide recession it was always going to be tricky and this is going to lead well in to 2023 / 2024.

That said we’re still here and have a really good platform with relationships formed with reserves and the community to allow us to support more projects when the funds are there.

Strategic report

Completed projects

The Pro Direct Soccer Shinning Stars Football Club now have brand new football boots to match their snazzy uniforms. ProDirect once more stepped in and provided 10 pairs of boots and the Ubuntu Wildlife Trust donors provided a further 8 pairs. Our next project with the team is to purchase and provide training equipment such as cones, balls, and more so they can realise their dream of becoming regional league champions one day.

We have seen the team grow from 18 to 24 since we donated the kit earlier this year and another 14 wanting to join now. Recent results have seen them running out 2-1 and 4-2 against 2 of their neighbouring communities.

In August 2022, we were able to support Zululand Wildlife Treatment Clinic, Manyoni and Ikhala Vet Clinic with much needed PetEMed units.

In September we had an auction with items donated from many organisations, like Galaxy, Exeter City FC, Bradfords and more.

Paige Scholfield of the Southern Brave donated a match worn signed shirt from the 2022 women’s playing team.

The winners of the conservation cup in July 2022 were the Ubuntu Sables under the captaincy of Jamie-Lee taking home the trophy for Ubuntu for the 3rd year in a row. Special mention to the 5 under 10’s (3 of them 9’s and 1 under 6) Ryan, Jack, Fred, Alfie and Jake that took part, they were all awesome and make it so exciting for Whimple for the future and the event.

In April 2022 Barbara was interviewed by NBC 7 San Diego for a segment on Down to Earth with Dagmar and looking specifically at ‘Spiders really aren’t that bad!’. Herself and Clinton also carried out a talk at Westville Girls High School on spiders and scorpions.

Engaging our supporters

Our supporters are central to our success for fundraising and raising awareness throughout the world.

We will continue to use social media, events and our website to engage with them.

We would not be where we are today, making the impact we are without their ongoing support.

Looking ahead

With the difficulties we’re facing worldwide, it’s going to make having our experience’s a real challenge and we need to find a more sustainable way of supporting the overheads of the charity on the South African side.

From the UK side of things, we will be looking at giving everyone on the charity a role and looking to drive forward as a solid, well organised team.

There will be a massive focus on getting the proposals completed and out for both the Community Centre and Rangeland projects

We will also be looking to grow our corporate donors, event sponsors and individuals looking to raising donations through their own fundraisers.

We will be looking to grow considerable on the number of events held over the next year.

Financial review

In the 2022 to 2023 year, we have total funds received of £11,049 and an expenditure of £9,875

Funds raised are down just over £7,000 from the previous year.
