Core Values
– Integrity The quality of being honest and having strong moral principles. The state of being whole and undivided. Basically, doing what you say you are going to do, when you say you are going to do it and how you say you are going to do it
– Mindfulness The quality or state of being conscious or aware of something. First awareness of self, then others. Being conscious and considered in our approach – when we act, when we speak and how we live.
– Nondisruptive Creation Where one’s gain does not have to come at the expense of others. A new way of thinking where untouched opportunities abound. We need to alter our perception of fundraising, we should not be competing in this field, we should be leading through creativity. We need to inspire people to give.
– Empowerment Firstly by empowering ourselves with the tools and information to make a difference. Then by empowering organisations, groups, communities, and society to make lasting changes, to make better choices, and to create opportunities. Empowerment should be done in transparent, meaningful, and lasting ways.

To support like-minded implementing partners on the ground in fulfilment of our mission
Message from Martyn Randall Chairman of the Trust
Continuing in 2021 with a Covid lockdown in both the UK and South Africa has proved to be a real challenge for us all. Whilst we have had much support during this period the uncertainty around organising events and experience has really challenged the team.
Whilst we have been able to keep up the support of the smaller projects, we have continued to look to develop our own, larger legacy with the community centre and rangeland project. We have been busy putting together grant funding proposals and hope that towards the end of 2022 / start of 2023 we may be able to bring them to fruition.
I was able to go out to South Africa for the first time since the charity began in January of 2022 and was able to visit some of the projects we have been supporting. This has seen my passion and drive grow even further and I’m very much looking forward to the next few years.
It’s only when I complete the annual report, looking back at past year I realise how much we have grown and the projects we have supported.
Thank you again for everyone that has and continues to support Ubuntu WT.

Completed projects
In April 2021 we donated the Canon camera across to our partners at FreeMe Wildlife to continue to research and document the great work they do.
Completed projects - continued
In June 2021 we joined teams with Africa's top ant specialist Peter Hawkes and protégé Daniella Molenaar to help search for a specific genus of ant (Strumigenys sp.). This is in support of a Japanese study on ant evolution. Despite winter not being the best time of the year to search for a tiny ant that forms tiny colonies - Peter was able to find a colony of Strumigenys simoni on the Greater Ukuwela Nature Reserve. Peter was able to find only the second confirmed record EVER in South Africa for the species Discothyrea oculata
Completed projects - continued
In July 2021 we were able to support our partners FreeMe Wildlife with the donation of a new laptop and hard drive for their media and database storage

In December 2021 we purchased a car battery to support the management staff at the Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife Sodwana Bay Reserve within Isimangaliso Wetland Park. They can now confidently start their vehicle in the morning after months of problems. Allowing them to head out to the beaches during the turtle laying and hatching season. Beaches are cleaned of debris, turtles are monitored and recorded, and anti-poaching patrols are conducted.

Experiences
In June 2021 we completed our first experience tour with the AliSom Group at Manyoni Private Game Reserve for a 4-day 3-night Wildlife Experience. This gives the opportunity for corporates to get directly involved in on-the-ground conservation and be part of the work they are funding through the trip. Only work vital for the reserve is ever considered
Experiences
In November 2021 we completed our second experience tour with Cooper Vision at Manyoni Private Game Reserve for a 4-day 3-night Wildlife Experience. This gives the opportunity for corporates to get directly involved in on-the-ground conservation and be part of the work they are funding through the trip. Only work vital for the reserve is ever considered
Engaging our supporters
Our supporters are central to our success for fundraising and raising awareness throughout the world.
We will continue to use social media, events and our website to engage with them.
We would not be where we are today, making the impact we are without their ongoing support.
Looking ahead
With coronavirus coming to an end, the UK and perhaps the world are facing uncertainty around the war in Ukraine, the energy crisis and a possible recession. This will make planning events, getting donors on board and attracting corporates for experience tours very challenging for the team.
From the UK side of things, we will be looking at giving everyone on the charity a role and looking to drive forward as a solid, well organised team.
There will be a massive focus on getting the proposals completed and out for both the Community Centre and Rangeland projects
We will also be looking to grow our corporate donors, event sponsors and individuals looking to raising donations through their own fundraisers.
Financial review
The charities first year has total funds received of £18,197 and a an expenditure of £17,431.
