**CHAIR’S REPORT  for Year 2021 15[TH] JUNE 2022** 

## **Rivers’ Projects** 

It has been a busy year mainly focused on all things associated with the river both the Erme and Yealm. 

Since the last AGM, we have completed a further two river cleans with good turnouts and plenty of rubbish collected. We regularly get 20 + people in attendance and while the larger items are less frequently found the smaller litter remains a problem, so we are pleased with the community efforts to limit the amounts getting to the Sea. 

Tim Poate has been representing PL:21 on the Yealm Estuary to Moor project run by Yealm Community Energy. The project has made a lot of progress with a Scoping Study commissioned and undertaken by Westcountry Rivers Trust to explore the data available and identify areas of potential improvements to be made along the catchment. More recently an intern has been recruited, through the University of Plymouth, to undertake more work and to start looking at case study sites and engage with landowners. 

Locally members of Pl:21 continue to undertake citizen science measurements along the Erme to assist with monitoring of the river which we hope will be used for future work that may be comparable to the Yealm project. 

## **Ivybridge Regeneration Planning Application (Aldi)** 

The trustees spent much time deliberating this major planning application.  We have opposed it on the grounds that it does meet our terms to make the local area a more sustainable place to live and work 

## **Active Travel** 

Working with local Sustrans volunteers and the Big Bike Revival project, we carried out five guided rides, four of which were for families with young children and one for adults.  We receive an average attendance of 20+people and we received grants of £960 less £100 expenditure which we have earmarked for the community.
