## **PL:21 TRANSITION INITIATIVE** 

**CHAIR’S REPORT for Year 2020.                                                                                       3[rd] March 2021** 

**Are we at the start of a sustainable revolution?  2020 was the year of a pandemic like nothing else we have seen.  It was and still is worldwide where people’s lives have been turned upside down because of the power of nature.  The Covid crisis has exposed us to undervaluing resilience and, whether at local or national level, our society is starting to place a greater value of the effects of climate change.** 

**These are some of our events during 2020. Our main organizational change was to become a charity and this came into effect on 1[st] June 2020.** 

- **a) Prior to the pandemic and working jointly with Ivybridge Town Council and South Dartmoor Community Energy, we organized Ivybridge Futures Fair on 8[th] February at the Watermark Centre.  This event attracted 25 stands from local community groups and organizations including sustainable energy, sustainable transport, food, farming, wildlife and waste** 

- **b) Active Travel report published in March** 

- **c) Consulted by the district and town councils for our response on climate change to a regeneration project in Ivybridge town centre** 

- **d) Responded to consultation for major highway improvements at Lee Mill** 

- **e) Obtained support from the police and highways authority for our close pass campaign started in 2018 and secured funds to erect signs** 

- **f) Obtained support and helped secure funding for a quiet way for walking and cycling to the east of Ivybridge** 

- **g) Commenced water monitoring project to determine the health of the River Erme** 

- **h) Communications were by periodic newsletters to subscribers and Zoom on-line meetings** 

**We are members of Ivybridge Climate Emergency group lead by the town council but this has been on hold during the pandemic.  We have been invited to take part at the next meeting still to be arranged.**
