Hednesford Centennial Lions Club (HCLC) is part of the worldwide Lions organisation with the simple motto of ‘We Serve’.
HCLC meet monthly to manage its business and financial affairs. The meeting is open to all members of the group as well as members of the public.
Trustee and board meetings are held as needed throughout the year. It is stated that in the HCLC AGM each April the new elected officers (president, treasurer and secretary) will automatically take on the role of trustee.
During each business meeting there is a section for events and service where we discuss ways to raise money and how and who we can help in the community.
The charity’s main purpose is to fundraise to enable it supports the local community of Hednesford and when needed those further afield. The charity states it will help: Children and young people; Elderly and old people; People with disabilities; and the General public/mankind.
During the year under review, in March 2022 HCLC invited 100 local senior citizens to our annual Tea Party where we provided afternoon tea and entertainment.
Lions also donate regularly to the local foodbank and support in person when they are collecting at the local supermarket. One of our Lions also volunteers regularly at the centre, helping to support the running of the foodbank.
We collected children’s new and nearly new clothing throughout the year, this was gifted to our local Salvation Army to distribute to children in need at Christmas.
We continue to donate monthly to the Guide Dogs. This supports the training of dogs in order to support visually impaired people. We continue to collect thousands of glasses in order to support the recycling for sight campaign. This has continued this year with the support of the local opticians in the town. Glasses are sent off to be cleaned, sorted and graded and then sent to children and adults in need all over the world.
Lions also actively support other local community volunteer groups in the town and support bringing the community together with things such as decorating the town for Christmas, Remembrance Day and supporting events such as the Christmas light switch on event and the summer festival where roles include marshalling and speaking to members of the public. Hednesford Lions donated to the Turkish Earthquake Disaster Fund. We continue to maintain the gardens and grounds at Hednesford War Memorial. We meet monthly for to tidy, weed and litter pick. We encourage the local community to join us and now have several regular helpers on Sunday mornings.
