Objectives and Activities
Kettering Foodbank exists because no one should go hungry. We provide people with food and
basic items in a time of crisis and help to identify and resolve the underlying issues that cause
them to fall into food poverty and to help prevent food waste by ￿)llecting shortlout of date items
from supemiarkets.
To ensure we best setve our customers and supporters, Kettering Foodbank tracks usage
donations, this allows us to best allocate reSoUr￿S and help individuals become less dependant
on using foodbanks.
Achievements and Perforniance
At the start of 2024 we experienced the usual increase in demand for our setvices in
JanuarylFebruary. We continue to do all assessments over the phone making it easier for those in
the surrounding area and those with mobilty problems to access our services. With Foodbanks
very much in the news this year this has raised awareness of our needs leading to very generous
financial donations from Businesses. Community Groups and Churches as well as tremendous
support from individuals within the general public. Apart from Harvest Festival and Christmas non
perishable donation have gone down and we spent a totsl of £41.425.84 re-stocking essential food
items and £2.288.00 on our annual subscription to Fareshare. We re￿}Ved a grant from the
Household Support Fund at the beginning of 2024 with one of the ￿nditionS of the grant being
that some clients had to work wth Citizens Advice to try and resolve their long tenn problems. This
has resulted in a reduction in the nutnber people who were food bank dependant, most of our
recipients now being new to the food bank, with the demand now being slightly down on last year.
With refe￿alS from agencies, carers and even schools increasing we are spending more time on
the phone collecting inforniation in order to provide the best possible servi￿. We have taken on
more part time volunteers in order to keep up with the work load especially as we work towards
finding lasting solutions rather than just sticking a plaster on it. Due to the generosity of donors
and a big local community drive we ended 2024 with good stock levels and financial income
exceeding outgoings by £57,679.37 putting us in a strong position to Ix)ntinue meeting the needs
of those in a crisis of food poverty in Kettering and suThounding area in the future.
