The Trustees of the Coco Joelle Foundation ICJF) have pleasure in presenting their annual
report and financial statements for the year ended 31 December 2023. The financial
statements have been prepared in accordance with the Foundation's trust deed, the Charities
Act 1993 and the Statement of Recommended Prartice: Accounting arbd Reporting by
Charities published in 2￿5.
Stiurture, Governance and Management
The Coco Joelle Foundation ICJF) is a re8lStered charity, number 1189609, and is const5tuted
under a constitution dated 18 May 2020 establishing it as a Charitable Incorporated
Organi5ation ICIOI. It was established by Dr David Cotton and his daughter, Ms Lisa Seymour
as a grant-makln8 foundation whose objects are summarised as:
The relief of those in rtreed by reason of ill-health. disabllity. financial hardship or other
disadvantage;
The advancement ofenvironmental protettion or improvement;
Such other exclusively charitsble purpose5 as the Charlty Trustees declde.
The management of the Foundation is the responsibility of the Trustees who are eletted and
co-opted under the terms of the Con5tltutlon. All trustee5 were appointed for an initial peric
of one year, extended to three years by a resolution passed by the Trustees, The Trustees
were selected with regard to the skills, knowledge and experience needed for the effectlve
administration of the CIO. There are no sub-committees and all declslons are agreed by a
majority of the trustees who have signified their agreement.
Slnce Its establishment. and gNen the global d￿perSar of the Trustees and the Trust
Admlnlstrator, all decisions re8arding the Foundation have been condurted by emall, phone
or by virtual meetin8.
All Trustees and the Trust Administrator give of theirtime freely and receive no remuneration.
The Chair of Trustees covers the costs of adminlsterin8 the Foundation Ihire of PO Box,
website administration and postage) from her personal funds.
Grant Maklng Pollcy
The Foundation has established a grant making policy whith will distribLrte funding to causes
ccording to principles which include:
All organisations applying must be registered with the Charity Commission
All application5 must be to 5UPPOrt work that is wholly charitable in purpose
The grant will help the Foundation deliver against its charitable objects

The organisation applying can demonstrate credible and skilled leadership as well as
strong sector understanding
The organisation should show a committed approach to measure and evaluate the
8rant/s provided and report in detail on the expenditure of the grant at regular
intervals throughout the funding period
In addition to this policy, The Foundation is prepared to work in partnership with other
organisatlons to fund initiatNes beyond the scope of a single or8anisation
Charltles Aid FourKlation Donor-Advised Fund
The Coco Joelle Foundation is linked to a Donor-Advised Fund IDAFI administered by the
Charities Ald Foundation ICAFI. A5 well as being tax efficienc given that the majority of the
Trusvs funds come from the US, this reduce5 the administrative burden on the Trustees and
Trust Admlnistrator as all accounting for funds and grants is administered by CAF.
The Impact on grant disbursement Is mlnlmal. All beneficiarie5, whlle approaching Co¢oJoelle
trustees in the first instance, now under80 an eligibility check from CAF who then make grants
based on recommendations of the Coco Joelle trustees. A summary of this protsss is on the
Coco Joelle website and is explained to potential benefidaries when they first approach the
Foundation. This is reproduced below".

within 12 months who wlll osk you to complete o short grantee report, as per thelr
terms and conditions.
Grnnts Made
Operating through the DAF estsblished with CAF, the Coco Joelle Foundation trustees
authori5ed grants totalllng £221.500.00 in 2023. These were as follows:
James, Place (Charity No. 11218911. A total grant of £120,OLKI of which 15 being paid
over three years. The second instalment of £40,QM)O was paid in October 2023 and the
remaining £40,IM) will be paid in 2024 in accordance with the charitvs wi5he5. The
purpose of thls is to fund a coun5ellor for three years.
The Southmead Project (Charity No. 10766171. Grants totalling E31.500 were made to
thls Bristol based organisation in 2023 and is the balance of a commitment by the
Trustees to fund a ￿￿nsellOr for two years to a total of £63,lJJ).

The Q>nnectlon at St Martin-in-the-Fields (Charity No. 1078201). Trustees agreed a
grant of£150,000 to the Connection toward5 the establishment of its Women's
Development Unit in 2022. £75.0￿ was paid in 2022 and the balance of£75,CWwas
made in 2023.
PAPYRUS {Charlty No. 1070896). As part of the Big Give campalgn. the Foundation
made a 8rant ofE15.0(h)to PAPYRUS in December 2023, a sum which was to be doubled
by a match funder.
St Mungo's {Charity No. 11490851. The Coco Joelle Foundation made a grant of
£IO,CQO.00 towards the winter appeal.
The Matthew Project (Charlty No. 1122801). Trustees decided to make a 8rant of
£50,000 to this Norwich based charity to cover the salary and costs of a Social Enterpr15e
Manager,
Trustees contlnue to intervlew, generally by Zoom. those charitie5 bidding for funds. Thls
Ilows potential beneficiaries the opportunity to make their pitch and for the CJF'S Trustees
to dlscu55 and reflect on this before making a decislon on the Scale of the grant. Exceptions
to this are grants made in response to flash appeals such as Crlsls and Chr15tmas and the
D15asters Emergency Committee.
Futurn Plans
Trustees remaln keen to deepen their commttment to those organisations that are most
closely aligned to the Foundation's objertives such as James, Place, the Connection at St
Martin-In-th&Field and Your Place. Vislts have been made to all of these and regular contact
is maintained in order to better understand the charities, prioritles and how the CJF can help
them in achieving them.
