of the Mill Road bridge in November-December 2020. Each lantern depicted the special character of the road it represents and also the distinctive characteristics of the shop that hosted the lantern. The host shops were selected to showcase the ethnic diversity and independence of Mill Road’s shops and culture. An illustrated Mill Road Lantern Trail featured the lantern venues, but also other things of interest up and down the road. The aim was to encourage artistic expression and a sense of community and to celebrate the distinctive identity of Mill Road. The Lantern Trail was promoted via the Mill Road Winter Fair website, social media and the illustrative Trail map and encouraged people to visit and explore Mill Road. The lanterns will form the core of a lantern parade which will be part of future fairs.
