TRUSTEES’ REPORT FOR THE YEAR ENDED 31ST AUGUST 2021

Covid Disruption

The Covid-19 pandemic significantly disrupted the activities of the charity. The main high street banks were not opening new charity bank accounts during the lockdown and so City Church Manchester CIO (Charity Reg No 1157448) continued to hold and disburse funds related to the Northern Gospel Powerhouse initiative during this financial year. The funds were held in a restricted fund and the accounts for this period will be submitted by City Church Manchester CIO. It is anticipated that Northern Gospel Powerhouse will open a bank account in the financial year ending 31st August 2022 and the restricted fund held by City Church Manchester CIO will be closed.

The pandemic also prevented us from holding the launch conference that we had planned for May 2021. The launch conference will now take place in 2022.

Training

The Northern Gospel Powerhouse initiative has continued to train church planters throughout the pandemic. The City to City Incubator entered its second year with six church planters completing the course. Most training sessions were delivered over Zoom but it was possible for the cohort to meet in-person on a number of occasions.

The Manchester Planters Collective continued to meet online or in-person throughout the pandemic. Nine church planters were involved and it was an invaluable resource for training, encouragement and mutual accountability.

Caring

Gospel Coaching was provided for planters enrolled on the City to City Incubator using coaches trained and accredited by Church Multiplication Ministries. A number of other church planters throughout the UK were also coached by coaches working through the Northern Gospel Powerhouse.

Funding

The trustees are finalising the criteria for the award of grants from the City Renewal Fund (funds currently held by City Church Manchester CIO). It is anticipated that these will be agreed at a Trustees Meeting before the end of 2021 and the first grants will be made in June 2022.

Trustees’ Responsibilities

The Charities Act 2011 requires trustees to prepare financial statements for each financial year which give a true and fair view of the state of affairs of the CIO and the surplus of the CIO for that period. In preparing those financial statements the trustees are required to:

The trustees are responsible for keeping proper accounting records, which disclose with reasonable accuracy at any time the financial position of the CIO. They are also responsible for safeguarding the assets of the CIO and hence for taking reasonable steps for the prevention and detection of fraud and other irregularities.
