BRISTOL JEWISH BURIAL SOCIETY (CHEVRA KADISHA)

3 Coronation Road, Downend, S Glos BS16 5SN

Founded 1743 Registered Charity No: 1189458

Chairperson, Treasurer and Trustee: Alan Elkan (alanelkan44@gmail.com)

Co-treasurer and Trustee: Ian Kane (kaneia49@gmail.com)

Trustees: Yoram Adani, Samuel Baum

Minutes of trustees’ meeting at 3 Coronation Road, Downend BS16 5SN at 8pm on 6[th] June 2021

Present: Alan Elkan, Ian Kane, Yoram Adani, Sam Baum

Deaths of trustees

The meeting sadly noted the passing of Alex Schlesinger and Leonard Glynn.

New trustees

Owing to the deaths of Alex Schlesinger and Leonard Glynn, Yoram Adani and Samuel Baum are now trustees.

Finances

NatWest Bank finally paid £3960 owing to the society following pressure from the Financial Services Ombudsman (FSO).

At 21/12/20, the society held, in four accounts, £248,362.30.

The society continues to wait for £1995 owed by the French government for the funeral of Frederick Rouah.

Operations

Alan Elkan continues to run the society with Yoram Adani assisting with funerals. Covid-19 has meant we cannot carry out teharim – this work now being done by Harris Funeral Directors. Larger congregations do carry out the ritual but with more equipment and volunteers. Hence the two tehara teams are now redundant and there is no foreseeable means to revive them if Covid matters improve.

Fishponds burial ground

Cleaning is carried out every two weeks by Spotless Cleaning.

Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO) status

This is still proceeding.

Registration of the sites at Fishponds, Barton Vale and re-registration at Memorial Woodlands.

Alan attempted to carry this out but it was far too complicated and has now been passed to the society’s solicitors.

The meeting closed at 9pm.
