## INTRODUCTION FROM THE CHAIR

Welcome to Lucas Ark Trustees’ Annual Report for 2020/21

In the year 2020/21 we formally registered the charity with the Charity Commission. The pandemic began two months prior to registration. The country went into lockdown. There were series of lockdowns and restricted movements from the government to curb the spread of Covid-19. We experienced an increase and expansion in our work to support those who experienced domestic violence during this period. Government services were patchy as most staff were working from home. We focused more during this period on the safety and protection of our beneficiaries and their families. We were able to as part of essential needs provided face masks, hand sanitizers, aprons, and gloves. These items were not included in the usual items we provide for those who are being moved to temporary accommodations. We provide laptops and electronic tablets to the children who were engaged in online tutorials from their schools. Having a charity registration made a difference in our fundraising efforts. We received Winter Wellbeing Fund from United in H&F in March 2021. We equally received over £3000 in general donations from donors. We distributed essential and household items during the pandemic. Due to the inability to access services on time we received numerous offers of temporary accommodations from families and friends.

We now operate in Croydon, Sutton and Hammersmith & Fulham boroughs. We rely heavily on the support of volunteers to deliver the services. Most of the volunteers were themselves users of our services in the past.

Yours faithfully,

Jane Smith Chairperson

## **TRUSTEES’ REPORT**

## **Charitable objects**

Our charitable objects are to relieve the needs of people in particular but not exclusively from economically disadvantaged backgrounds who have experienced domestic violence or abuse by

1. The provision of specialist support and services

2. Provision of information, advice, guidance and training to people working with domestic violence and abused victims/survivors or those potentially vulnerable to gender based violence and abuse

## **PROJECTS REPORTS**

In our first year as a registered charity we helped ten women who were in abusive relationships. Four of them have children under 18 years old. The pandemic created another layer of work as we needed to provide hand sanitizers, gloves and face masks. We also face challenges as services were patchy as the country was under series of lockdowns.

We provided temporary accommodations such as hostels for women without children and Bed and Breakfast for those with children. We received offer of accommodations from families and friends. We distributed food, items of clothing, blankets and top up vouchers for gas and electricity. Since the beginning of the pandemic and the series of lockdowns, the impact is now taking its toll on relationships. In the three boroughs we operate from, there is increase in the number of breakdown in relationships and mental health related issues. This is in line with the rest of the country. Young people in relationships are having difficulties leaving together as couples.

We recruited volunteers who have been instrumental in the successful delivery of the projects. We plan to increase our volunteer base in the coming year as there is increasing need for support for women facing abusive partners.

We began our operations in Hammersmith & Fulham in this same year. We have been successful in raising funds for the users who are from Hammersmith & Fulham borough. Our immediate goal is to partner with organizations delivering services to vulnerable women.
