Trustee Annual Report year ended 5 April 2024
Objectives and Activities
To advance the education of the public in the conservation, protection and improvement of the physical and natural environment by:
Delivering workshops, lessons and other educational material to schools and other local organisations and groups in Wales on the topics of growing food, climate change, biodiversity and waste cycles.
In accordance with section 17(5) of the Charities Act and the Charities (Accounts and Reports) Regulations 2008, the trustees of the Charity had regard to the guidance on public benefit issued by the Charity Commission when exercising their powers and duties to which the guidance is relevant. In planning the activities for the year, the trustees reviewed the guidance at their trustee meetings. These main activities include:

Running educational sessions with Ysgol Eifion Wyn primary school

Running weekly gardening sessions for local volunteers

Providing information on growing food, climate change, biodiversity and waste cycles to locals

Growing fruit and vegetables for the local community
-
Actively litter picking, composting and repurposing waste materials
Achievements and Performance
Edible corridor:
-
Received Cronfa Cumunedol Eryri fund to put up 3 bike sheds at Ysgol Eifion Wyn
-
Increased planting areas for wildflowers and pollinator plants
-
Maintained a community orchard of Welsh fruit trees
-
Repaired and improved Ysgol Eifion Wyn’s food composter and area.

Created garden structures at the school made from repurposed materials

Litter pickers - we regularly lend out our littler pickers to other local community groups.
Weekly sessions:

Educated students from Ysgol Eifion Wyn about gardening and environmental issues. We organised a harvest festival in October and participated in a Wellbeing Day event in July

• Engaged our volunteers to find the tasks that interest them the most in the garden and spend time discussing what they observed, sharing stories and asking questions
Continued development

Repurposing waste and natural materials to create community spaces for growing and volunteers.

Walipini (earth bermed greenhouse) build

Basic safeguarding training was completed by all trustees and project manager.

Meeting other Incredible Edible groups across Wales at the IE Wales event in Wrexham
Engaged with the wider community through:

Local fairs - EcoBro in Penrhyndeudraeth and Ydref Werdd Plant Fair in Lan Ffestiniog and Penrhyndeudraeth High Street events.

Grand opening community event for Yr Hwb.

Book - We are included in the book, “Incredible Edible Seeds to Solutions” by Pam Warhurst CBE and Anne Sikking.

Train stations - through the station adoption scheme, our trustees take on the task of tending to three local train stations and planting up their raised beds.

Wales Climate Week - an online presentation was given by Lizzie Wynn and Pam Warhurst.

Dementia Actif now have a designated growing space for their participants to garden in.

Invited climate cyclist Kate Strong to the community garden. She spoke to the school children about her bamboo bicycle and mitigating climate change.

Financial Review
The main financial risk to the charity is loss of grant funding. Enough funds are held to cover annual insurance costs in the event of a loss of income.

Structure, Governance and Management
Our governing document is a constitution adopted 16th April, 2020. We are an unincorporated association.
Our trustees are elected by existing members at the AGM.

Bwyd Bendigedig Port / Incredible Edible Porthmadog is also known as Edible Madog. Our registered charity number is 1189361.
Our community Hwb is located within Bwy’n Iach’s car park. The community garden/spaces we care for are on lands owned by Gwynedd Council, Bwy’n Iach and Ysgol Eifion Wyn. The charity’s principal address is Ty Gwellt, Llandecwyn, Gwynedd, LL47 6YR.

Independent Examiner’s report to the Trustees
for the year ended 5 April 2024
I report to the Trustees on my examination of the accounts of the Charity for the year ended 5 April 2024.
Responsibilities and basis of report
As the Trustees of the Charity, you are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance with the requirements of the Charities Act 2011 (‘the Act’).
Having satisfied myself that the accounts of the Charity are not required to be audited for this year and are eligible for independent examination, I report in respect of my examination of the Charity’s accounts carried out under section 145 of the Act. In carrying out my examination I have followed all the applicable Directions given by the Charity Commission under section 145(5)(b) of the Act. In carrying out my examination, I have followed the Directions given by the Charity Commission (under section 145(5)(b) of the 2011 Act.
Independent examiner’s statement
I have completed my examination. I confirm that no material matters have come to my attention in connection with the examination giving me cause to believe that in any material respect:

accounting records were not kept in respect of the Charity as required by section 130 of the Act; or
-
the accounts do not accord with those records.
I have no concerns and have come across no other matters in connection with the examination to which attention should be drawn in this report in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.
