## **Structure, governance and management**

The charity is controlled by its governing document, a deed of trust, and constitutes an unincorporated charity. For governance and training purposes, the charity has adopted the following policies: Child Protection, Equal Opportunities, Privacy, Safeguarding, Board Basics, Data Protection & GDPR, Finance and Reserves. FOL collaborates with a number of organisations which work to support people in need such as: Turning Point, DrugFAM, and local community hubs.

## **Risk management**

The trustees have a duty to identify and review the risks to which the charity is exposed and to ensure appropriate controls are in place to provide reasonable assurance against fraud and error.

## **Our mission**

To support adult members of families of drug & alcohol users in Wiltshire through one-to-one counselling, support group meetings and bereavement support.

## **Our objectives**

- To provide a range of online and face-to-face counselling and support group services that focus on: detaching from chaotic behaviours, giving back responsibility, setting boundaries, being able to say ‘no’, supporting without enabling, and acceptance.

- To provide online and face-to-face bereavement support focusing on self-care and coming to terms with individual experiences of loss.

- To promote mental wellbeing by dealing with feelings of stress, loss, guilt, shame and hopelessness.

- To provide forums which allow families to meet and gain strength from others in similar situations to their own.

- To give families the opportunity to get involved with Families Out Loud through our Sharing by Doing Volunteer Scheme.

## **REPORT OF THE TRUSTEES FOR THE YEAR ENDED 30 SEPTEMBER 2021**

## **Our objectives (continued)**

- To secure income by way of donations, grants, sponsorship and independent fundraising events.

- To actively promote awareness of the charity by means of newsletters, use of social media and by approaching those who have influence in the support of those we consider to be our client base to advise them of the services we offer.

## **Achievements and performance**

## **New bereavement service**

In our work with families of people who have drug and alcohol addiction issues, the death of a loved one is a familiar concern. Sadly, for some this concern becomes a reality. Therefore, in May 2021 we began offering a bereavement service including one-to-one support and monthly face-to-face group meetings.

## **Sharing by Doing Volunteer programme**

To recognise our growing team of volunteers, Sharing by Doing Volunteering was introduced with the aim of providing a focus for existing helpers, and recruiting even more of them. These fantastic volunteers all have one thing in common – they believe in our mission to support families of drug & alcohol users in Wiltshire. They generously donate their time by making high quality items that are sold online and at craft markets, writing articles for our website, helping out on craft stalls, peer mentoring and making sure all aspects of our charity are run well.

## **KPIs**

## **Financial review**

Our main source of funds this year has been from a number of very generous grants from a number of local organisations. We have also raised a considerable amount through fundraising events, as well as donations.

## **Fundraising**

In 2020 we began selling items online and at craft market stalls. All of our products are handmade in Great Britain, and many by volunteers who are clients of Families Out Loud. Our craft market sales up to the end of our financial year amounted to £647.13.
