Section 5: Meeting the Public Benefit requirement

Interwoven Christian Community and Church has the following statement of values:

As a community of Christians, we want to be spirit-filled, Christ-centred people who demonstrate God’s grace. Our aim (A.I.M.) is to accept people as Jesus did, to inspire people as Jesus did and to give people purpose and meaning as Jesus did.

The charitable objects of Interwoven, the method of achieving them and beneficiaries are defined as follows:

To advance the Christian faith in accordance with the statement of values above for the benefit of the public in such parts of the United Kingdom or the world as the trustees determine from time to time.

Activities in furtherance of this will include:

Our activities and achievements in furtherance of the above charitable objectives during the year ending 31[st] March 2022 are described below in four areas: Making meetings happen; Contributing to our communities; Fixing a future (youth-related activity); communications

Making Meetings Happen

Sunday Gatherings : We have had gatherings for worship, teaching and praying most Sunday mornings through the year.

For the period April to July these gatherings remained on Zoom. We chose to meet via Zoom, rather than simply stream or broadcast content. Meeting via Zoom, using breakout rooms, allows for conversation, prayer, interaction and mutual support. This was a deliberate choice to maintain a sense of community and prevent people from being isolated. Typically, we had around 20 – 25 devices join our Sunday gatherings. This equated to 30 – 50 people.

Version 1.0

From August we started to return to meeting in person using Age Concern’s premises in Lostock Hall. Initially we hosted at least one online gathering per month to enable people who were reluctant to meet in person to still connect. From January 2022 all our gatherings have been in-person but we offer an option for people to join online.

These gatherings have been hosted by a range of people across Interwoven. We have looked at the following themes: Life, Psalms, ‘Worship in the Waiting’ (through Advent and Christmas 2021), Light and Worship in the Wilderness (relating to Lent 2022).

Children’s Work: Whether online or in person we have had a specific breakout room for families with its own specific activities to allow learning, fellowship around the theme for each week. This has not been a separate learning programme but integrated into our main Interwoven Sunday meeting. We have a ‘Family Room’ whatsapp group for sharing good news, activities and prayer requests.

Advent and Lent: Through Advent 2021 and Lent 2022 we have made use of some Engage Worship resources. This has allowed us to offer personal devotions for people to follow day by day. In addition we have run two small groups through Advent and Lent enabling people to connect in homes for prayer, friendship and worship.

Weekly Prayer: We have offered one 30 minute session of simple morning or evening prayer most weeks through the 12 month period.

Contributing to our Communities

During the year, our Contributing to Our Communities stream operated in three main ways:

1. Organising and Hosting Community Events

From April 2021 to March 2022 there have been a monthly ‘Knit and Natter’ and a monthly ‘Interwoven Good Book Club’ - both were held initially online returning to face to face in person through the autumn. Through Advent 2021 we hosted a Wreath Making event and a Carols and Wine event, with 40+ people attending.

2. Support for Three Charities (Lancashire MIND, Christians Against Poverty (Leyland Centre) and Life NoW)

We have made financial donations (5% of our income plus specific additional gifts to each) to the above charities during the year and provided other support in terms of prayer. During the year, we also held specific Sunday services with a focus on those charities.

3. Hosted a Renew Hope Wellbeing Space

In September 2021 we launched Renew Hope in partnership with the national organisation Renew Wellbeing. Using Age Concern’s premises we offer a space of welcome and inclusion, working in partnership with mental health teams to improve peoples’ emotional and mental wellbeing.

The Renew Hope team was began meeting together from May time, learning and growing together in preparation for a September launch. The Renew Hope space has been open most Fridays from 1pm – 3pm and we have seen 44 different people access this space between September 2021 and March 2022.

- Fixing a Future (Youth related activity )

Through the Autumn of 2021 we explored the possibility of running a Renew Hope specifically for Young People (11 – 14 years). At this point we were not able to resource this initiative with volunteers.

At present our Youth related work is paused.

Communications

Communications regarding church activities comprises various interrelated streams, from the public facing website, to regular email bulletins, a Facebook group and page, to private group messaging. Some examples are included below.

The administration of these communications is delegated to different members of the church leadership team.
