Report of the Trustees for the April 30 Year Ended

The trustees present their report with the financial statements of the charity for the year ended 30 April 2025.

The trustees have adopted the provisions of Accounting and Reporting by Charities: Statement of Recommended Practice applicable to charities preparing their accounts in accordance with the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland (FRS 102) (effective 1 January 2019)

Objectives & Aims

The charity aims to preserve and protect physical and mental health and relieve suffering amongst young persons affected by the death of a sibling by providing appropriate and/or specialist information, advice and support through the provision of resources and access to a community of persons similarly affected

Significant activities

During the 24-25 year, we once again successfully pushed the realms of what is possible as a small charity that is responding to such a significant demand for sibling bereavement support, across the country. We continue to hear stories from bereaved siblings that we speak to and national statistics, that sibling grief remains a truly isolating time for any young person whose brother or sister has died. In the past year, thousands of children and young people have wondered if they are the only one to experience the death of a brother or sister. They have felt lonely after no longer having their first friend by their side and questioned whether their feelings are validated. They have had days where they have hesitantly got out of bed in the morning and felt guilty at being able to do so. That’s why this year had a strong theme for us of bringing siblings and their families together.

We achieved this through launching a range of projects, all designed to reduce isolation, increase our offering of support and empowering siblings to know they can manage the impact of sibling grief. 2

During the year, we launched the Sibling Professionals Network by bringing together a group of committed and dedicated bereavement professionals, from around the UK. The day highlighted their dedication to supporting bereaved siblings and evidenced the commitment there is to working together on this mission. We also launched the Sibling Bereavement helpline, in partnership with Child Bereavement UK. This helpline provides trained support to bereaved siblings, their families and professionals to ensure they’re given appropriate advice and guidance. We also joined the steering group of other national charities who plan and coordinate Childrens Grief Awareness Week. This highly successful week shone light on the thousands of children who grieve every year. Towards the end of the year, we launched ‘Programme for Parents’ our free online resource that empowers parents to speak confidently and openly about grief, with their children. Aside from launching our new projects, we responded to requests for over 4,000 of our free grief and wellbeing resources and overall, supported over 1,000 bereaved siblings across the country.

This work was all undermined by our knowledge that to continue growing, we need to invest in a new member of staff, responsible for the growth and development of our work. As such, we were delighted to welcome our new Growth Director who started with us in February. None of this would have been possible at all without the prenominal support of our fundraisers,

who raised a collective £23,000 for Sibling Support, throughout the year.

Trustees have reviewed the guidance issued by the Charity Commission on public benefit.

Volunteers

We couldn't do our work without the invaluable support of volunteers. From those that offer their time and advice, to others who carry out admin tasks, such as posting our mindfulness boxes.

FINANCIAL REVIEW

Financial position As at 30 April 2025 the charity had cash funds available of £51,595 (2024: £53,479), unrestricted reserves of £46,942 (2024: £53,479) and restricted reserves of £7,150 (2024: £nil)

Reserves policy

Sibling Support will hold £30,000 in reserves, which is around six months of operating costs, or 15% of the previous year's income, whichever is higher. We recognise that unrestricted funds allow our charity to adapt to its needs and deal with any shortfall of funding.

Most of our income is already unrestricted, through donations and fundraising.

This reserves policy will be revisited annually as soon as the funding situation changes.

Sibling Support is a Charitable Incorporated Organisation registered on 29 April 2020.

Introduction & training of new trustees

Trustee application is an open process.

Applications from suitable candidates are welcome and anyone wishing to apply to be a trustee that fits the given criteria will be considered.

New trustees can be selected at a trustee meeting, in which 50% or greater of trustees will agree to a new appointment. When considering the selection criteria for an appointment as a charity trustee, the current board will take into account the skills, knowledge and experience needed for the effective administration of the charity.

Statement of trustee’s responsibilities:

The trustees are responsible for preparing the Report of the Trustees and the financial statements in accordance with applicable law and United Kingdom Accounting Standards (United Kingdom Generally Accepted Accounting Practice).

Charity law requires the trustees to prepare financial statements for each financial year. Under that law, the trustees have elected to prepare the financial statements in accordance with United Kingdom Generally Accepted Accounting Practice (United Kingdom Accounting Standards and applicable law).

Under charity law the trustees must not approve the financial statements unless they are satisfied that they give a true and fair view of the state of affairs of the charity and of the incoming resources and application of resources, including the income and expenditure, of the charity for that period. In preparing those financial statements, the trustees are required to:

I report to the charity trustees on my examination of the accounts of Sibling Support (the Trust) for the year ended 30 April 2025.

~~Responsibilities and basis of report~~

As the charity trustees of the Trust you are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance with the requirements of the Charities Act 2011 ('the Act').

I report in respect of my examination of the Trust's accounts carried out under Section 145 of the Act and in carrying out my examination I have followed all applicable Directions given by the Charity Commission under Section 145(5)(b) of the Act.

I have completed my examination. I confirm that no material matters have come to my attention in connection with the examination giving me cause to believe that in any material respect:

1. accounting records were not kept in respect of the Trust as required by Section 130 of the Act; or

3. the accounts do not comply with the applicable requirements concerning the form and content of accounts set out in the Charities (Accounts and Reports) Regulations 2008 other than any requirement that the accounts give a true and fair view which is not a matter considered as part of an independent examination.

I have no concerns and have come across no other matters in connection with the examination to which attention should be drawn in this report in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.

1. ACCOUNTING POLICIES

Basis of Preparing the Financial Statements The financial statements of the charity, which is a public benefit entity under FRS 102, have been prepared in accordance with the Charities SORP (FRS 102) 'Accounting and Reporting by Charities: Statement of

Recommended Practice applicable to charities preparing their accounts in accordance with the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland (FRS 102) (effective 1 January 2019)', Financial Reporting Standard 102 'The Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland' and the Charities Act 2011. The financial statements have been prepared under the historical cost convention.

INCOME

All income is recognised in the Statement of Financial Activities once the charity has entitlement to the funds, it is probable that the income will be received and the amount can be measured reliably.

EXPENDITURE

Liabilities are recognised as expenditure as soon as there is a legal or constructive obligation committing the charity to that expenditure, it is probable that a transfer of economic benefits will be required in settlement and the amount of the obligation can be measured reliably. Expenditure is accounted for on an accruals basis and has been classified under headings that aggregate all cost related to the category. Where costs cannot be directly attributed to particular headings they have been allocated to activities on a basis consistent with the use of resources.

TAXATION

The charity is exempt from tax on its charitable activities.

FUND ACCOUNTING

Unrestricted funds can be used in accordance with the charitable objectives at the discretion of the trustees.

Restricted funds can only be used for particular restricted purposes within the objects of the charity.

Restrictions arise when specified by the donor or when funds are raised for particular restricted purposes.

2. TRUSTEES' REMUNERATION AND BENEFITS
