Trustee selection method

Trustees are elected annually by members of the charity. All Trustees are required to be a member of the charity. All Trustees stand down at the end of the financial period but may put themselves forward for re-election. There is no limit on how many years a Trustee may serve.

3.0 Objectives and Activities

Charity’s objectives

The Objectives of the Club are such purposes as are exclusively charitable in England & Wales, including in particular:

The relief of poverty and the relief of those in need in particular by providing humanitarian aid and disaster relief.

Encouraging service-minded people to serve their community without personal reward.

Encouraging members to take an active interest in the civic, cultural, social and moral welfare of the community.

Supporting youth to develop their skills, capacities and capabilities to enable them to participate in society as mature and responsible individuals.

Charity’s activities

The charity’s primary activity is to raise money from the public and return the money back to the public by making grants to worthy causes. The club operates mainly in the local Lancaster and Morecambe area but also supports wider humanitarian aid and disaster relief across the world through Lions Club International Fund LCIF.

All monies raised from the public are returned to the public. All members of the charity give their services for free and all of the clubs administration costs are paid for by the charity members.

In addition to giving out grants the charity operate a Food Club, assisting local people in food poverty. The Food Club operates from St James Church Hall Heysham every Thursday.

The charity also operates a dementia club with the aim of providing advice and support to dementia carers. The dementia club operates from Morecambe library every Wednesday.

Charity Trustee’s Statement

In carrying out their duties, the Trustees of the charity have had regard to the guidance issued by the commission on public benefit.

4.0 Achievements and Performance

The club raised a total of £4022 direct from the public and received a further £4,205 from donations and grants to fund its charitable activities.

The club gave out grants totalling £3669 direct to local people in need, and £400 to international disaster zones via Lions Club International.

The Food Club continued to operate throughout the period. The food club meets once a week and supplies food to the needy. The food club operating costs rose significantly compared to the previous year due to increase food and transport costs requiring the Lions club to subsidise the food club operation by £2540.

The Dementia Drop-in club operated every Wednesday providing support and advice for the carers and families of those living with dementia.

Once a week we fed the homeless.

We supplied sleep pods and sleeping bags to the homeless in Lancaster through Lancaster Homeless Action and also in Morecambe.

We supplied funding to visually impaired people to take part in cycling trips.

We supplied food for families in need through Social Services.

Through the Lions International disaster fund we made donations totalling £400 providing relief to people affected by, the USA Tornado Disaster, the earthquake in Turkey, the Puerto Rico floods and the Pakistan floods.

We donated monies to local charities, WiseUp Workshops, Barnardo’s Lancaster, Homestart Morecambe, Derian House Children’s Hospice, Morecambe Foyer, Bendrigg Trust canoe project and St John’s hospice

We provide Christmas presents for the young people in Barnardo’s.

We ran a Big Coffee Morning for MacMillan.

Collected and donated stamps to RNIB.

Collected and donated plastic tops for recycling to a group in Morecambe.

Supplied various care homes with twiddle muffs for the elderly.

Provided Christmas gifts and cards for the elderly in local care homes.

Supplied a bed for a local special needs child

We donated to Aching Arms a charity for child cot deaths.
