The principal activities of the charity are TO ADVANCE THE EDUCATION OF THE PUBLIC IN THE SUBJECT OF BUILDING STRONG, HEALTHY RELATIONSHIPS IN GENERAL AND MARRIAGES, CIVIL PARTNERSHIPS AND OTHER LONG-TERM COMMITTED PARTNERSHIPS IN PARTICULAR.
Policy and operating decisions of the charity rest with the Trustees
The Trustees met on several occasions to set policies, agree the strategic direction of the charity, agree budgets, discuss operational activity and to monitor the financial position. All activities of the charity this year have been led and undertaken by volunteers, with the exception of a small amount of marketing and technical support which was contracted out.
Vision and Mission
Soulmates Academy Foundation has a vision to see everyone equipped to do relationships well. We believe that all relationships face a common set of fundamental hurdles, but that people can be proactively equipped to overcome these and build quality relationships. By helping people do relationships well, especially at home, we hope to rebuild health and resilience in individuals and couples, families and society at large, resulting in improved emotional and mental health statistics and reduced family breakdown and divorce rates.
Our ten-year goal is to help equip 1,000,000 people with the skills to build stronger relationships. We seek to do that by equipping individuals with the fundamentals of relationship skills so that they turn up better to relationships, have better conversations and achieve better outcomes.
Our current mission is to deliver practical, accessible and relevant content for Individuals and Couples, working through Community Organisations and Schools/Colleges.

Trustees' Annual Report
Year ended 5 April 2023
Review of the year’s key activities
Funding
-
The bulk of our funding this year came from 6 regular donors giving a combined amount of £965 per month
-
Most of those donors are also registered for gift aid.
Resource Development
-
The focus continued on developing small group resources for use in churches. Having explored a couple of options to co-develop the resources with partners, the decision was taken to focus on building it in-house.
-
In the period we developed an outline structure for two programs to provide church leaders with practical courses as follows:
-
A short bible study resource for existing small groups, focused on building healthy relationships.
-
A missional outreach program, focused on building healthy relationships in the local community.
Profile Building & Strategic Alliances
-
We partnered with the UK Charity Care for the Family to film and record new resources for them (part of their new Marriage Course and Date Night in-a-Box programmes)
-
We continued to participate in Explore sessions – workshops for young people in high schools to explore long-term, positive relationships in the context of marriage.
-
We delivered a session on managing conflict in partnership with the charity STEP on their leadership programme at a high school in St Albans.
-
We participated in a one-day Leadership Conference organised by the charity STEP, with over sixty 6[th] formers from multiple high schools in St Albans in attendance.
-
We delivered a one-day conference (with a half-day follow up embedding session) for staff at a local Church to help them improve both inter-colleague and home relationships.
Future Developments
The focus for the financial year 2023/24 will continue to be on finalising developments of, and launching, the small group resources for churches, complete with workbooks and facilitator packs. Thereafter, we plan to create and roll out similar materials for a wider range of community groups.
-
Speed of implementation will continue to depend to a greater extent on finding the right external resources to help bring it to life.
-
As at year-end, four churches are lined up to pilot this material when it is available.

Incoming resources
All incoming resources are included in the statement of financial activities when entitlement has passed to the charity; it is probable that the economic benefits associated with the transaction will flow to the charity and the amount can be reliably measured. The following specific policies are applied to particular categories of income:
-
income from donations or grants is recognised when there is evidence of entitlement to the gift, receipt is probable and its amount can be measured reliably.
-
legacy income is recognised when receipt is probable and entitlement is established.
-
income from donated goods is measured at the fair value of the goods unless this is impractical to measure reliably, in which case the value is derived from the cost to the donor or the estimated resale value. Donated facilities and services are recognised in the accounts when received if the value can be reliably measured. No amounts are included for the contribution of general volunteers.
-
income from contracts for the supply of services is recognised with the delivery of the contracted service. This is classified as unrestricted funds unless there is a contractual requirement for it to be spent on a particular purpose and returned if unspent, in which case it may be regarded as restricted.
Resources expended
Expenditure is recognised on an accruals basis as a liability is incurred. Expenditure includes any VAT which cannot be fully recovered, and is classified under headings of the statement of financial activities to which it relates:
-
expenditure on raising funds includes the costs of all fundraising activities, events, non-charitable trading activities, and the sale of donated goods.
-
expenditure on charitable activities includes all costs incurred by a charity in undertaking activities that further its charitable aims for the benefit of its beneficiaries, including those support costs and costs relating to the governance of the charity apportioned to charitable activities.
-
other expenditure includes all expenditure that is neither related to raising funds for the charity nor part of its expenditure on charitable activities.
All costs are allocated to expenditure categories reflecting the use of the resource. Direct costs attributable to a single activity are allocated directly to that activity. Shared costs are apportioned between the activities they contribute to on a reasonable, justifiable and consistent basis.
