inf0m￿li0n on the benefits of adive travel to school with various degrees

Our website and engagement on s(Kial media via Facebook and
xTh￿rytter continue to be a key form kn disseminatKfft of Cmjr edU￿tiOnal
material and raising awareness of the effect of air pollution from car Iraffic
and car idling on health and wdl-being. We provided infornation on the
beneffts of active travel ￿K1 various means to achieve this, ranging from
walking and cyding. vRlking buses. to park and stride. We (x)ntinue to
produce a newsletter during the srJKM)l year whith we disseminate to
schools and parents.
We suppNted and eng￿ed in inibal planning of the first Camden Bike
Bus, it wlll start in Spring 2024. We ￿)ntinued to digitally shar8 our
Getting to school guide which we distributed directly to local Sch￿18 and
the wider community through our website.
During the year, we updated our Getting to sch￿1 gulde to include new
cycle lanes and public trans￿￿ d8taibs and printed and distributed them
to l(xal schools.
In JunelJuly 2023 Green School Runs Tan a proled on behalf of the
Hampstead Neighbourh￿d Forum in the (x)ntext of their NeighbourtK)od
plan being revised. We run workshops In thre8 local ￿001$ (Involving
approximately 50 thildren) hel￿ng the kits planning their Mdeal
neighbourhcth in terms of Travel arKI Independence, Natural
Environment and ¢¥p￿lun1￿8S f£￿ play. The results have b88n Included
in the apperKlix of the woposed Hampst8ad NeIghbOurt￿ Plan.
We engaged wlth a local school Just ou151de our'Gettlng to school gulde,
area, and presented to them ts various Inrtiatives from GSR and
examples from other SCI￿1$ to help them reduce car traffic on the school
run. The school has adopted some of these altematives and developed
their own guide kn gettitvJ to by altemative meth￿5 of travel in
order to redu￿ alr pollutK)n.
In 2022, the charity embarked on a vw challengirvJ endeavour to brlng
about im[￿veMents to a ky21 bus Servi￿ specifically desiqned for the
school wn linking a number of ne￿ht10Uring areas not connected by
oth8r fomis of public transporL Hrth*Evw, the bus Servi￿ has been found
to be inadequale by parents and kKal residents, in twms of both its
timetable and frequency. This has made ti unreliable and of limiled use
for the school run. and effectively not being used sufficbently with many
parents (xjntinuing to have to rdy on (ars and ￿ntrIbuti￿￿ to school run
air polluts'on. Green School Runs approached Transport for London {TfL)
lo present the Issues and requ8st for an increase in the frequency and
amendmerT15 to the tNnetable to be better C£K￿dinated ￿th the
schools. start and finishing times. We carried out extensive collection and
analysls of data on pupil numbers vthich was gathered from local schools
in onjer lo suprxxt the demand thanges to the servi￿. We hwrfe
collected rn￿e than 5(Kl replies to an online questionnaire. This project
continued into 2023 with increased visibilty on social m￿lia with
campavJns to raise awarBness. inter11￿ in I￿1 papers aThJ
engagement with local ￿UnCIll0r$. Tfl is Currently rev￿VIng the ixjs
route, vthile Green Sthool Run LX)ntinues campaigning for its

Green SL*KX)l Runs suw)cwted the Impth￿ltation of Cycling Lanes and
School Streets {str8ets around S¢F￿￿)IS with restricted traffic during
school drop off and pid( up hours of the day) in the local area and
actively infLYmed on their health benefits, eswcially in the context of the
school run. via our social media dwinels. We ￿ntinUed to seek
engagement with enttties in order to expand the availabbg cyding
routes during the sch(xJl run.
During the year. we have conb'nued our Park & Stride system in
conjunction ￿ a local major stN)pping centre vthith provided free
parking spac8s for the ￿￿Xnlng and afteffl￿n school drop off and pick up
times for Icrfxl SCtrKx￿s. This enabled parents with no option but to drive,
to park for free for a limited penrxl of time fvrther away from the schools
and then 'stride' wth their thildren tithom schcK)l. Thus reduclng the
number of cars at the school gates whith would have reduced alr
polluts'on, traffic COngest￿n and enabled kids to walk part of the distance
to schixA and thus also experiencing the health tEnefits of active travel.

organisations in the local area which is seen to actively promote the

the local council, and businesses promoting sustalnable travel solutions.
