Objectives and Activities
Spellow Lane Evangelical Church ("The Church") is committed to enabling as many people as possible to worship at the church and become part of the community. The Church holds church services; prayer meetings and social events throughout the year, such as coffee mornings.
Achievements and Performance
Spellow Lane Evangelical Church warmly welcomes everyone to its Sunday services and other gatherings. People from Liverpool 4 and various other parts of the city attend, representing many different nationalities and language groups. The church meetings offer a safe and inclusive environment, promoting integration without prejudice.
The church leadership actively supports individuals in developing their leadership potential, addressing both the spiritual and material needs of families and individuals. This includes providing an internal clothing and food bank, as well as directing people to citywide services to assist with their integration into Liverpool and UK life.
The church welcomes individuals from all walks of life, including those with various abilities and disabilities. It actively seeks to meet the diverse needs of its community on a weekly basis.
Church Activities
Sunday School and Creche offer age-appropriate activities for children attending on Sunday mornings. These sessions provide Bible teaching suited to each age group, allowing parents and guardians to fully benefit from the main worship service. The children enjoy engaging stories and varied activities each week, and they often participate in the main church service. There is an ongoing need for more teachers and leaders to help share the workload.
There is a Bible-focused teaching session for young people on Sunday mornings before the main church service, and they often participate in the worship service. This initiative aims to encourage and develop their skills. We have seen promising progress in areas such as leading church services, translating between Portuguese and English, leading meetings, singing, and drama. However, there is a need for a more suitable training course for teachers to effectively deliver the material. Additionally, it can be challenging to get the young people to commit to training.

Report of the Trustees
Year ending 31 March 2025
Worship services are well attended, with many nationalities represented on Sunday mornings. The atmosphere is loving and welcoming, with regular attendees and a steady number of visitors. The two main language groups are Portuguese and English, and translation is provided. However, we have lost a few regular translators in the past year due to career moves and personal reasons. Therefore, training and encouraging others to preach and take on future church leadership roles remains a priority.
We continue to engage with the community, aiming to make a spiritual and practical difference in people's lives. We have completed a leaflet drop in the area and spoken to residents on their doorsteps, introducing the church and exploring how we can serve the community. We have collaborated with charities and local authority departments in the Liverpool 4 area, directing people to available resources and organizations. Additionally, we have made encouraging progress in working with Everton in the Community and Everton Free School, and have shared needs and information with Champions North Docks Neighbourhood.
Over the past year, Spellow Lane Evangelical Church has experienced stability and growth, welcoming new members while others have moved on. Regular activities such as Communion services, Sunday school, live worship, and youth nights have flourished, with rising participation and international engagement. New initiatives like film nights and sports hall activities have enriched the community, while partnerships with organizations like Everton in the Community and Salop Street Church have provided essential support. Despite challenges such as parking issues, building repairs, and financial concerns, the church has benefited from dedicated volunteers, growing fellowship through platforms like WhatsApp, and the contributions of interpreters and live worship leaders. Looking ahead, the church remains committed to fostering togetherness, supporting one another, and trusting in Christ Jesus to build on these achievements.
Structure, Governance and Management
The method of appointment of The Church members is set out in the Church Rule Book. The Church members are responsible for making decisions on all matters of general concern and importance relating to the church, including deciding on how funds are to be spent.
The members meet regularly to discuss all matters relating to the church, such as, finance, events, members and any other business.

Independent Examiner's Report For the year ending 31 March 2025
Report to the trustees/members of: Spellow Lane Evangelical Church On the accounts for the year ended: 31 March 2025 Charity No: 1189064
Respective responsibilities of the trustees and the examiner
The charity's trustees consider that an audit is not required for this year (under section 43(2) of the Charities Act 1993 (the Act)) and that an independent examination is needed.
It is my responsibility to:
-
(a) examine the accounts (under section 43 of the act),
-
(b) to follow the procedures laid down in the General Directions given by the Charity Commission (under section 43(7)(b) of the Act), and
-
(c) to state whether particular matters have come to my attention.
Basis of independent examiner's report
My examination was carried out in accordance with General Directions given by the Charity Commission. An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the charity and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records. It also includes consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts, and seeking explanations provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit and consequently no opinion is given as to whether the accounts present a 'true and fair' view and the report is limited top those matters set on in the statement below.
Independent examiner's statement
In the course of my examination, no matter has come to my attention:
-
1 which gives me reasonable cause to believe that in, any material respect, the requirements:
-
(a) to keep accounting records in accordance with section 41 of the Act; and
-
(b) to prepare accounts which accord with the accounting records and comply with the accounting requirements of the 1993 Act; have not been met; or
-
2 to which, in my opinion, attention should be drawn in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.
