Our registration number is: 1189007. ## **Trustees Report** ## **Structure/Governance/Management** The George Mallory Foundation is a charitable incorporated organisation whose only voting members are its charity trustees. It was registered with the Charity Commission in April 2020. Originally the Foundation comprised a total of four trustees. These included Captain Anthony Harrison (Chairman and Project Manager), Councillor John Unterhalter (Vice Chairman), Councillor Charlotte Leach (Treasurer) and Miss Rosemarie Colton (Secretary. Subsequently the trustees voted on a new volunteer to the committee, Miss Sarah Wenig as our lead researcher into the life of George Mallory and his life partner Ruth Mallory. The Foundation still comprises of five trustees as we move into the 2022-23 reporting year. Over the past year the trustees have met whenever matters needing discussion have arisen. Such matters have included the following: - a) Merchandise options and production b) Grant Application c) Social media d) Generating charity awareness e) Legal foundations for memorial development ## **Aims and Objectives** The George Mallory Foundation was established: - a) To advance the education of the public in the life, achievements and legacy of British Explorer, George. H. L. Mallory by the construction of a central memorial and support to national commemorations. Raising awareness through public talks, events and broadcasts. The Trustees confirm that they have referred to the guidance contained in the Charity Commission’s general guidance on public benefit when reviewing the Foundation’s aims and objectives and in planning future activities for the year. The Foundation has established a project list to benefit key locations across the United Kingdom which pay major roles in the life and legacy of George Mallory. These include: - the village of Mobberley, Cheshire which was the birth place of Mallory and his passion for climbing. - Birkenhead, Merseyside which was where the Mallory family lived just 500m South of Andrew Irvine. - Winchester College, the school which Mallory attended and took his passion and knowledge of mountaineering and climbing to the next level. - The Holt in Godalming, which was the married home of George and Ruth where he would finally depart on his 1921, 1922 and 1924 Everest Expeditions. - Mont Everest graveyard, at the base to the final resting place of George Mallory. ## **Financial Review** In this financial period the charity has had success on a number of front, hitting all of our annual objectives we set in the former reporting period. We have received two successful grants from both the Manchester Airport Trust and Tesco Community Fund and raised over £1,000.00 in private donations and a further £5,300 pledged towards our cause. Anthony_|| |**Chairman & Treasurer**|_Harrison_|| ## **Internal Control and Risk Management** The charity has several internal control measures to ensure that risk both internally and externally is reduced to a minimum. Financially the charity has adopted a two signature approach to all transactions and formal agreement to all costs in a recorded meeting. We also conduct an internal and external audit annually with a registered independent chartered accountant. The annual accounts, cashbook records, bank statements and all receipts are available to be viewed at any point in time by members of the public and are all submitted to our external auditor at the end of the financial year. ## **Future Plans** Over the next 12 months from 1[st] April 2022 to 31[st] March 2023, the trustees aim to have secured further funding from community grants and complete the work to the land in Mobberley, Cheshire on the corner of Hobcroft Lane and Slade Lane which will include landscaping the area, installing a lectern to the early life of George Mallory, planting two new trees, installing an oak bench and adding an ‘Everest 4661 Miles’ fingerpost. We also hope to raise between 30-40% of the funds required for us to achieve our main objective and construct a national memorial to George Mallory. ## **Signatures of Trustees** All Trustees approved the above annual report and accompanying account for the financial year 9[th] April 2021 to 31[st] March 2022 and agree that they are a true and fair reflection of the accounts and the charities activities for this period.
