Chair’s Report
This year, we focussed on the immediate issues and concerns of our clients. Providing much-needed support, sign-posting and food parcels.
The food bank has seen an increase in users this year as the cost of living crisis made the issue of food poverty more acute in our community.
With a very special thank you to all our supporters and indeed the volunteers who worked tirelessly throughout the year regardless of weather ensuring all clients received their food parcels
Jordan Rees Chair
Birchgrove Community Garden
Summer 2023 was an excellent vegetable-growing year. This summer we were able to fill our food parcels to the brim with nutritional, fresh produce from the community garden.
We regularly host group visits from local primary schools, who have enjoyed learning how to grow vegetables,
including kale, tomatoes,
cabbages, carrots, a variety of herbs and even some flowers. Once in the winter/spring when the garden is empty and again in the summer when the community garden is in full bloom and they have learned about seeds and plants in their classroom learning. This highlights the work of the foodbank and how we help our community.
Christmas at the Foodbank
Christmas 2023, Local Community Councillors provided funding and practical support to the foodbank at a difficult time for families in need.
Christmas week we delivered over 900 bags of food to approximately 150 families in the local community and surrounding areas. These speical Christmas parcels included, turkey crowns, selection boxes and all the trimmings that we all enjoy on these special holidays.
Sponsors & Donors
Special thanks to the local churches, schools, businesses, charities and supermarkets for their continued support enabling the foodbank to provide help and assistance to people and their families living within Birchgrove and the surrounding area.
We have had several food donations from Tesco Swansea Marina customers and Peniel Green Spiritualist Church (pictured left) as well as local schools, churches and supermarkets.

Fresh Produce Provision: Plant more fruit trees to include more fresh produce and variety in our food parcels.
Food Skills: We would like to teach cooking skills or recipes that will make the best use of the store cupboard essentials, such as tins and dried food, that we include in our food parcels.
