AAFAF'S sub8roups have contlnued to work on
tree planting and maintenance; energy,.
transport; water quallty testin8 and Ilalson wlth
sLikeholders. We continue to have monthly
public meet6ng5 open to all and have produced
two newsletters With a wide dlstrlbutlon. Our
ET Project" tested lake water for pathogen5 at
a popular locatfjon over the Summer, produclng
information on waterquallty and an end-of
projert ￿POrt. Ourvolunteers have begun a
community garden on the site of an old kitchen
rden. We have worked with a wide variety of
group5, or8anisations and authorities, and run
our annual plant giveawoy. We have completed
the "Net Zero with Tree5 and Bees" project
{funded bythe National Lotteryl and come up
with suggestions for future work.. the first of
these appears likely to be a tommunity orchard.

We have conunued to raise awareness in the
local area of climate and biodiversity issues.
We have continued with water testing in local
rivers and have worked with Lakes Parish
Council. Windermere Town Council, the
Environment A8ency. Unlted Utlllties and local
campaigns around issues of water quallty- Thls
year, with funding from Lake5 Parlsh Councll and
the Penny Conservatlon Charity, we have
condurted weekly water quallty testtng at
Waterhead. a popular local slte for entry to
Windermere. We have published the result5 of
this work wèekly, helpln8 the publlc make
informed decislons about whether to go in the
water. We have made suggesttons re8ardln8 the
practlcal experlence of providing more
upto-date information on water quality for lake
user5,' highlighted shortcomings in dlfferent
methodologies and investigated the
contributlons made by different Possible
pollutSon sources. We feel our work has
contribute(i to recent actions taken by United
utilities with re8ard to improvin8 the state of
local rivers and lakes.
We have planted trees in 3 number of site5 and
worked with a variety of private landowners and
stskeholders Such as Woodland Trust and
National Tfust. We continue to work on
maintalnin8 tree plantfng done by ourselves and
other landowners in the area. Practical work has
contlnued with maintenance of frult tree
plantSngs, a wlldflower meadow and helping
establish garden areas in the churthyard. By
bringlng together different Stakeholders we have
enabled projects to develop even rf we have not
been doing the work ourselves.
Our monthly open meetings with speaker5 have
covered subjerts such as winter vegetable
growing- water quality; red squirrels; proposals
for a visitor charge in the Lake District- changes
in local agricultu￿ and aquatic meiofauna (the
latter in conjunciion with an international course

being run at the Untversityl. These meetings
regulady attratt a wide variety of people (both
local and visitors) and can result in lively debates.
Our annual Plant Giveaway was attersded by
around Icrf) people who took away hundreds of
plants for their own gardens.
The Community Garden project has so far
Involved over 20 local people including some

with the communitythrough food donation
projerts and eommunity lunches at the
Amble5ide Parish Centre. together with more

We have continued to work with a wide varlety

events have included an information stall at the
local spotts. and a "Climate Fresk" edu¢atlon
afternoon to spread information about climate
change.

appointed for a temi of three years by a
resolution passed at a properly convened
