## **Background**

Birtley Town Community Bowling Club (BTCBC) is a small charity offering local facilities for residents to socialize and come together to volunteer, watch and play bowls. It has operated at its current location for almost 120 years.

The charity maintains the facilities and bowling green on behalf of the wider local community and is recognised locally for the role they play. Whilst operating an open and inclusive policy where anyone can join and benefit from our facilities, the club predominantly helps many of Birtley's older residents by offering them a valuable and affordable outlet to maintain social contact, remain physically active and improve their mental and physical wellbeing.

There are no paid members of staff at the club. The trustees who help maintain and organise the club do so purely on a voluntary basis.

BTCBC is located on Durham Road at the north end of the town.

## **Activities**

There are approximately sixty members at BTCBC. The season runs from April through to September. The facilities are used by both casual bowlers and those partaking in regional competitions.

In addition to weekly activities, the club held a number of events such as hosting friendlies with clubs outside of the leagues which we play in. This included a visit from Shottstown Bowling Club in Scotland. And the club was also the venue for the Regional Fire Brigade open day.

- New kitchen facilities for the club house

- Automated sprinkler system for watering the green

- Purchase of ground maintenance equipment such as lawn mower

This work could not have been undertaken without the grant support.

The day-to-day costs for running the club and the maintenance costs are raised from membership fees and the activities such as sale of refreshments, domino cards/raffles and similar matters.

The club has an emergency reserve of £5,000.

The club for the financial period ending March 31[st] 2025 has a balance of

## **Conclusions**
