ODOAP was registered as a charity incorporated organisation (CIO) on 01 April 2020 

The Board meets monthly, Trustees are all familiar with the practical work of the Charity and their responsibilities as Trustees. The Company Secretary distributes relevant information from the Charity Commission to the Trustees, as appropriate. Management The Foundation’s affairs are conducted monthly by all trustees, under direction of the secretary and Chair. Risk management The Board of Trustees has reviewed the major risks to which The Charity is exposed. The Board is satisfied that the procedures in place are adequate to manage such risks appropriately. The major risk which The Charity faces is its income is entirely derived from donations which depends on successful grant applications and public donations.

## OBJECTIVES AND ACTIVITIES 

The Charity’s objects, as laid out in the governing documents, are to promote social inclusion for the public benefit amongst migrants of African countries with Portuguese as an official language, also known as países africanos de língua oficial portuguesa, (palop), who are socially excluded on the grounds of their ethnic origin, relieving the needs of those people who are socially excluded and assisting them to integrate into society, in particular but not exclusively by: a) providing a local network group that encourages and enables such people to participate more effectively with the wider community; b) increasing, or co-ordinating, opportunities for such people to engage with service providers, to enable those providers to adapt services to better meet the needs of such people; and c) the provision of education and training, including English language skills, and advice and support on matters such as health, housing and employment and such other support designed to enable them to integrate and adapt to the local community. 2) to advance in life and help young people who are palop migrants by providing mentorship, employment support and other such support which develops their skills, capacities and capabilities to enable them to participate in society as mature and responsible individuals.

## WHAT THE CHARITY DID DURING THE YEAR 

During the first year the charity set out to support the community with services focusing on unemployment, benefits and homelessness. 

## WHAT OUR ACHIEVEMENTS ARE 

As a result of our direct approach to the community needs, we have successfully supported more than 12 people into employment, secured temporary housing for 4 people facing evictions and supported more than 20 people filing for benefits such as UC, housing benefit and disability allowance. 

## WHAT WERE THE CHALLENGES 

A major challenge for the charity was the pandemic; we ended up limiting our services to those users more or less capable of navigating online services. Whereas we know that there are hundreds of older members who do not have computer literacy; hence, not being able to reach them is another

## WHAT WERE THE BENEFITS TO THE PUBLIC 

The charity has supported increasing and coordinating opportunities for the PALOP community through the promotion of social inclusion. More and more people have been relying on our services with their challenges and finding the charity as a bridge for them in the UK. 

WHAT WE PLAN TO DO WITH YOUR DONATIONS: OUR FUTURE PLANS 

For the coming year, ODOAP is planning to create events that promote social inclusion within the PALOP community by organising events while covering some costs with donations. The remaining donations will be used for marketing purposes, office supplies and the training of trustees.

PRESENTATION OF THE FINANCIAL STATEMENTS 

The financial statements have been prepared in accordance with The Companies Act, The Charities (Accounts and Reports) Regulations and Statement of Recommended Practice (SORP) and the trustees are responsible for preparing the Trustees' Report and the financial statements in accordance with applicable law and United Kingdom Accounting Standards (United Kingdom Generally Accepted Accounting Practice). Legal requirements of SORP requires the trustees to prepare financial statements for each financial year which give a true and fair view of the state of affairs of the charitable company and of the incoming resources and application of resources, including the income and expenditure, of the charitable company for that period. In preparing these financial statements, the trustees are required to: • select suitable accounting policies and then apply them consistently; •

observe the methods and principles in the Charities SORP; • make judgments and estimates that are reasonable and prudent; • state whether applicable UK Accounting Standards have been followed, subject to any material departures disclosed and explained in the financial statements; • prepare the financial statements on the going concern basis unless it is inappropriate to presume that the charitable company will continue in business. The trustees are responsible for keeping proper accounting records that disclose with reasonable accuracy at any time the financial position of the charitable company and enable them to ensure that the financial statements comply with the recommended practice of SORP. They are also responsible for safeguarding the assets of the charitable company and hence for taking reasonable steps for the prevention and detection of fraud and other irregularities Reporting by Charities. 

## **Declaration** 

In our opinion - the financial statements give a true and fair view of the state of the charitable company’s affairs as at 28 April 2021 and of its incoming resources and application of resources, including its income and expenditure, for the year then ended; the financial statements have been properly prepared in accordance with United Kingdom Generally Accepted Accounting Practice, the financial statements have been prepared in accordance with the SORP FRS 102 and the information given in the Trustees‟ Annual Report is consistent with the financial statements.
