## **BARNSLEY TABLE TENNIS CLUB TRUSTEES’ REPORT Year End 31 August 2025**

## **Club aim:**

## **a. Club aim**

Barnsley Table Tennis Cub (BTTC) aims to inspire everyone to carry a heart for table tennis, to have a desire to improve and a passion that allows them to be the best that they can be. We aim to do this in a positive community atmosphere that provides a feeling of belonging.

**a.a.** The objects of the CIO are: the promotion of community participation in healthy recreation by providing facilities and coaching for playing table tennis in Barnsley.

## **b. How we set out to achieve this objective**

BTTC provides friendly, welcoming sessions and activities for all ages and backgrounds. We are able to welcome members and visitors into friendly, positive activities and sessions through a well presented facility with coaches and supervisors who care for the outstanding community that they serve. The clubs facilities continue to be well maintained. Coaches and supervisors are welcoming and understanding to everyone who walks through the clubs doors, understanding and listening to everyones story. BTTC aims to inspire everyone to carry a heart for table tennis by representing the sport well in everything that it does.

The charity has been able to achieve its objects by launching Junior coaching sessions, where juniors are provided with a high level of coaching, in an environment which is safe and welcoming. We have further achieved this by continuing to deliver training camps that have provided some of the best coaching opportunities for players in our region. We were able to welcome several top level coaches to our camps. Over the course of this year, the club has seen its most successful season to date and we have seen players compete in competitions up and down the country throughout the 2024-25 campaign.

## **Club running and performance**

Over the course of the period, the club has continued to work closely with Hope House Church, we place our close relationship with them at the heart of everything that we do and we remain thankful for their heart and partnership which enables us to be the organisation that we are today.

BTTC runs on significant voluntary hours, by several trustees, committee members and general volunteers including many parents. It is thanks to the persistent hard work and dedication to promote table tennis, by these individuals, that we are able to function as we do day-to-day. The club operates on approximately 40 voluntary hours per week across all sessions, office work and activities. With recent developments of our International Table Tennis Training Camp we have introduced a new team of dedicated individuals who ensured that the camps have been able to run as well as they did.

## **Over 50s Bat & Chat**

BTTC has an active Bat & Chat session, which runs every Tuesday and Thursday. These sessions provide outstanding social opportunities for people from all areas of Barnsley. They allow members and visitors to come together from different communities and backgrounds, for conversation in a safe and positive environment. The board are now satisfied that these sessions are running at good attendance levels.

## **Barnsley Table Tennis League**

The Barnsley Table Tennis League is mostly played at Barnsley TTC, providing competitive sporting opportunities for players who play in teams of three. The 2024/25 season was a huge success, and the new upcoming season starts in October 2025 with some of our upcoming junior players stepping up to play in the league, along with many experienced senior players.

## **BARNSLEY TABLE TENNIS CLUB TRUSTEES’ REPORT (continued) Year End 31 August 2025**

## **Junior Coaching Division**

BTTC runs a junior coaching section for children aged from 5-18. Joe Race leads the junior coaching division along with a talented and committed team of coaches and assistants. We are pleased to have welcomed Ben Barlow as our Lead Coach. Ben brings a wealth of experience and insight as we continue to provide the best coaching opportunities in South Yorkshire. Our coaching team exists to support, enable and teach youngsters how to live, play and enjoy table tennis. We value our coaching team immeasurably and we understand the huge impact that they have on the growth and development of our players. Throughout the course of the season our players have travelled far and wide to compete and represent our club, picking up many podium finishes along the way. A small group of players also travelled to Denmark to train in this years B75 International Table Tennis Camp. Players gained invaluable experience of training at a professional level throughout the trip.

## **International Table Tennis Camp**

BTTC successfully another International Table Tennis Camp in February 2025, following on from last years trial International Style Training Camps. These training camps have developed into one of the fastest growing and most successful training camps available in Yorkshire. February’s camp saw an additional day and our largest coaching team yet! We welcomed two new coaches who coach at international level who provided coaching and teaching opportunities to 20 participants. Following the huge success of the camp we are now preparing for our biggest event yet. We plan to welcome 40 players to the next event that will be held over three central locations in the heart of Barnsley town centre.

## **Providing a safe space for everyone**

BTTC is committed to providing a safe, welcoming environment for all its members and visitors. Our sessions exist, not just for table tennis, but for community, connection and spending time with others.

## **Risk Assessment**

The club have assessed the major risks towards the charity, financially, and in terms of club management and running. The board of trustees is satisfied that the correct systems and practices are in place to mitigate these risks that are presented. All risk assessments remain up to date and the board of trustees remains committed to this.

## **Developments and Growth Plans a. Future developments**

## **Over 50’s Bat & Chat**

Our over 50’s Bat & Chat is experiencing good uptake on Tuesday mornings. These sessions are a great opportunity for people to get together and socialise over a game of table tennis, as well as taking part in good physical activity. Our Thursday session has seen significant growth over the past year and is now competing with the Tuesday session in terms of attendance. We anticipate that demand for these sessions will continue to grow.

## **Continued Training and Development of New Coaches**

Barnsley TTC is committed to enabling and providing training opportunities for both new and existing coaches.

## **Financial review.**

## **a. Going concern**

As good practice and management, It’s vital that we consider all financial decisions and that we make them correctly and wisely, based solely on ensuring that we are able to continue promoting table tennis within our community, in a way which allows individuals to thrive and be the best that they can be. The board is aware of the increase in the cost of living and recognises that the cost of running the club is also increasing.

## **b. Financial review**

The charity remains in a good position regarding finances and we are committed to managing our finances well and wisely. The board is satisfied that the charity has sufficient funds to operate as normal for the next 12 months.

## **Structure, governance and management.**

**a.** The charity was registered on 01 April 2020. It is governed by its constitution dated 31 March 2020. Copies of the club’s CIO constitution are available on request.

## **b. Method of appointment or election of trustees.**

The board of trustees are responsible for the management committee of the charity. Trustees of the charity are elected by the terms of the CIO Association and the clubs constitution.

There is no maximum number of trustees for the CIO, however there must be at least three charity trustees. If the number falls below this minimum, the remaining trustee or trustees may act only to call a meeting of the charity trustees, or appoint a new trustee. No one is entitled to act as a charity trustee whether on appointment or on any re-appointment until he or she has expressly acknowledged, in whatever way the charity trustees decide, his or her acceptance of the office of charity trustee.
