Charity Name: The Silent Horn Foundation

Charity Number: 1188847

Reporting period: 01/02/2023 - 31/01/2024

Introduction

The Silent Horn Foundation is a charity in its first few years of operation with only its trustees operating as volunteers in service to it's goals. In the reporting year, some exciting progress has been made regarding our impact in vulnerable areas as well as in establishing our structure and fund raising avenues.

Our aims

For this period, our aims have been to increase our donations and begin our journey in applying for larger grants to achieve our impact goals faster. We also intend to utilise the skill set of our team to publish and begin distributing the world's first reference work in Somali sign language. We have ambitions to achieve standardisation and recognition of an official Somali sign language by positioning ourselves as capable resource creators as well as creating public interest on the ground in Somalia and among the diaspora.

Activities

We have been working diligently in resource creation, refining out skills in design and production of content as well as expanding our research network for Somali sign language experts.

We have also began work on the ground in Somalia arranging peaceful public demonstrations to put pressure on both local and national government to recognise the support needed for Somalia's Deaf community.

We have also made crucial relationships with a number of local schools in Somalia which serve deaf children and we have been instrumental in providing appropriate materials to aid learning and development.
