2025 Annual Report

Stockport Pride 2025 Annual Report - Page 1 - Registered Charity Number 1188841

Introduction

Stockport Pride continues to promote equality, diversity and inclusion, as well as increasing the profile of the LGBTQ+ community in the borough. Over the past year, this has largely been through the annual festival in the town centre, while also liaising with other organisations.

This report refers to the period from November 2024 to October 2025.

Structure and Governance

Stockport Pride operates as a Charitable Incorporated Organisation under its constitution, as registered with the Charity Commission in England and Wales on 31st March 2020 - with the Charity Number 1188841. The Registered Address of Stockport Pride is 23 High Street, Stockport, SK1 1EG.

At the Stockport Pride Annual General Meeting held on 8th December 2024 there wasn’t a quorum of Trustees, but the Members attending recommended the elections that were ratified at an quorate Extraordinary General Meeting of Trustees on 26th January 2025.

During the reporting period, Stockport Pride had three Trustees - Aaron HolmesDoyle, Daniel Ekwebelem and Stephen Bowyer.

The membership of the charity is made up of individuals who have been elected at an Annual General Meeting or appointed at an intervening meeting by the Trustees and other Members of the charity.

Trustees and Members of Stockport Pride are elected or appointed, and the meetings are held, in accordance with the charity’s Constitution.

Activities

Following a change of those in the posts of Trustees and Members of the charity, there was a focus largely on delivering the annual one-day festival.

Stockport Pride 2025

The latest annual Stockport Pride festival took place on Sunday 1st June 2025, with a walking parade through the town centre and a number of activities based at Stockport Market Place.

The Stockport Pride 2025 stage showcased local and LGBTQ+ performers. It was compered throughout the day by The Vegan Queens, and music provided by DJ Phil “Cee”.

The programme of entertainment was headlined by the singer Nørskov, who had previously appeared on The Voice UK.

Other performers included returning acts such as Queen Bayard, The Daily Dance’s Ailsa McPhee, acapella quartet Laura and the Lesbians and Scottish country dancing group Gay Gordons Manchester.

New on stage for this year were the drag comedy musical act Sister Mary and Bad Heritage who were the first rock band to ever appear on a Stockport Pride stage.

Aside from entertainment, there were also a number of speakers from the local community appearing on stage.

Speakers included representatives from LGBTQ+ housing network HouseProud North, Stockport County Community Foundation’s County Pride LGBTQ+ football team and LGBTQ+ youth support organisation It Gets Better UK.

While actor Nathaniel J Hall from It’s a Sin, Jay Crawford from the Sparkle Transgender Festival, and the LGBT Advisor to the Mayor of Greater Manchester Carl Austin-Behan talked about challenges faced by the community.

British Sign Language Interpreters were on stage to interpret for all those performing or speaking at Stockport Pride 2025, in order to help improve the accessibility of the event. The Stockport Pride 2025 Parade saw hundreds of people walk from the Underbanks, through Merseyway Shopping Centre, across Suffragette Square, past Red Rock and up to Stockport Market Place - joining the rest of the day’s activities.

With numerous individuals and organisations walking with us and carrying flags and banners, the parade helped increase the visibility of the LGBTQ+ community.

There were fifty-eight stallholders throughout Stockport Market Place during Stockport Pride 2025, which included local community groups, charities, food and drinks vendors, makers and other organisations.

Amongst those represented with the stalls this year were Age UK Stockport, Beacon Counselling, Citizens Advice, LGBT Foundation, Locala Sexual Health Service, Signpost Stockport For Carers, Stockport Council Fostering Service, Stockport Libraries, Stockport NHS Foundation Trust, The Proud Trust and Together Trust.

The stalls helped to connect LGBTQ+ people with local services, while also helping to promote good health and wellbeing within the community.

For families with young children attending the event, there was a Family Space based inside Stockport Museum, run by Proud 2b Parents. It included activities suitable for young children to keep them entertained.

If anyone attending found themselves overwhelmed by the crowds or noise, there was a Quiet Space, also based inside Stockport Museum. It enabled attendees to take some time out, with some relaxing activities available.

Helping us deliver Stockport Pride 2025 were fifty-one volunteers on the day, as well as six Trustees and Members who worked all year to organise the day.

Stockport Pride 2025 Volunteer Celebration

We invited the volunteers who helped us on the day of Stockport Pride 2025 to join us for a celebration of their contributions.

Those who attended the Volunteer Celebration at Stockroom were thanked for their assistance at this year’s event, and presented with certificates and thank you cards.

Attending Conferences

During the reporting period, Stockport Pride attended two Pride conferences - in Barcelona and Hull.

Price Barcelona hosted the European Pride Organisers Association Conference and AGM. Amongst the topics covered were creating a lasting change, archiving our organisation’s activities and pressures faced by Prides.

During the conference in Barcelona, we met with staff from Manchester Pride - who were presenting their bid to host EuroPride 2028. Although not successful in their bid, we had made some new contacts with the nearby Pride organisation.

Pride in Hull hosted the UK Pride Organisers Network Conference. Amongst the topics covered at this event were insurance, being more sustainable and developing

Advertising

We paid for the printing of posters and flyers to promote Stockport Pride 2025, which were distributed locally. A printed programme was produced for the event, which included information about the festival and adverts from sponsors and advertisers. Beyond that most of our publicity was organic on social media and on our website.

Sponsorship

We had a lot of interest in sponsorship of Stockport Pride 2025 from both old and new contacts. We reduced the cost of the lower tier package following feedback from previous sponsors, in order to make it more accessible to smaller businesses.

We are very grateful for the support we received from pladis, Vernon Building Society, Creative Support, Totally Stockport, Sky, Stockport Homes Group, Adoption Counts, The Ted Darling Crime Series, Mosscare St Vincent’s Housing Group, Cheshire Datasystems Limited and the Stockport LGBTQ+ Network - totalling £11,821.79 received in sponsorships in relation to Stockport Pride 2025.

Grants

Although we found it to be a difficult year overall for funding, we were successful in applying for grant of £1,999.40 from the SKyLight Community Fund.

Stallholders Fees

The fees charged for each of the stalls at Stockport Pride 2025 raised a total of £2,455, which went towards the general event costs.

Future Plans

We aim to continue providing a voice for the local LGBTQ+ community, and to ensure their voices are heard and represented at Stockport Pride events - while promoting equality, diversity and inclusion.
