STOCKPORT PRIDE 2021

ANNUAL REPORT

Stockport Pride 2021 Annual Report - Page 1 of 4 Registered Charity Number 1188841

Introduction

The ongoing state of the pandemic during 2021 make it unclear as to whether we’d be able to hold our event in person this year. Questions as to whether the lockdown would be extended made it difficult to plan our event for the end of July.

Throughout the year we’ve maintained our online presence, sharing information relevant to the community. In the latter half of the year we’ve been involved in a number of events online and in person.

On the front page of this report are a selection of stills from the content we submitted to Greater Manchester Digital Pride, and those on other pages are from previous year’s Stockport Pride events.

Activities

Greater Manchester Digital Pride

An online event was created in collaboration with local Pride organisations across Greater Manchester and the LGBT Adviser to the Mayor of Greater Manchester.

As well as giving a platform for Pride organisations (including some, such as Stockport Pride, that had not been able to hold an in-person event), the event was raising money for the George House Trust and the LGBT Foundation’s Safer Sex Scheme.

Towards this event we submitted videos from musicians, a poet, community groups, a housing association, and a school.

Community Engagement Event

We continued working on public engagement, following up on first consultation at the start of 2020 before the pandemic.

We held a community engagement event in October 2021, which raised a few useful points. These included the importance of running events for the visibility of the community, having a clear single message, and how some people can feel intimidated when attending events alone.

Stockport Rainbow Halloween Party

As local LGBTQ+ community groups were starting to meet in person again, we decided to organise a Halloween party for the end of October.

We worked in collaboration with Stockport LGBT+ Plus and Forward Stockport LGBT+ to bring the LGBTQ+ community together for a spooky night at Disability Stockport.

Amongst the fun we also held a competition for the best costume of the night.

Attending the UKPON Conference

Two of our trustees attended the UK Pride Organisers Network conference in Cheltenham in October, which was hosted by Pride in Gloucestershire.

It provided a great opportunity for networking and sharing best practice, knowledge and skills from other Pride organisations from across the country and abroad.

Grants

Stockport Pride participated in the Vernon Building Society’s Community Awards 2020. Based on the number of votes received from members of the public, we received a grant of £250 at the beginning of our financial year.

Incoming Donations

During the year, we received a total of £11.47 in donations via the Amazon Smile programme and £86.25 through the PayPal Giving Fund.

A £50 donation was made by an attendee of LGBT+ History Month events in Stockport in 2021, which we received through Stockport Forward LGBT+.

Staff from One+All donated £110 towards Stockport Pride.

Outgoing Donations

It was agreed at our last Annual General Meeting to make a donation of £100 towards Rainbow Railroad, who work to help LGBTQ+ people around the world to escape violence and persecution in their home countries.

We donated £100 to Stockport Forward LGBT+, specifically for the delivery of LGBT+ History Month events throughout February 2021.

Liabilities

Debts still to be paid at the end of the year largely relate to the Stockport Rainbow Halloween Party, including seasonal party supplies and a music licence.

Future Plans

The trustees have continued to develop plans for engaging with the needs of the local community. This includes the proposal to create a ‘Friends of Stockport Pride’ group to provide further feedback on the organisation’s activities.

We’re looking forward to 2022, and being able to hold another big festival event in person for the benefit of the local LGBTQ+ community. Plans are also being made for Stockport Pride to host a number of events during LGBT+ History Month in February 2022.
