Covid continued to thwart our plans to launch by means of a young person concert. It was extremely difficult to garner interest from local schools who had too much on their plate maintaining provision of the basic curriculum. However we did get some publicity and did manage to raise some money.
We set up a website and began to collect names of those interested in what we intend to do. We attended three charity markets and on one occasion were visited by the Mayor of Oswestry. Visitors to our stall would tell us of their experiences of learning music as a child or their sadness that the opportunity was not available for their child. We received generous start up donations from Oswestry Borderland Rotarians, Cae Glas Masonic Lodge and the Shropshire Provincial Lodge, the Catriona Fund, the Oswestry town council festival fund and Reanimator, a local business. Also we were delighted to receive several donations from interested individuals and set up facilities for on line giving.
During the year we received 24 gifted instruments, some of which needed a few repairs and we were able to buy appropriate accessories.
We finished the year with a surplus of £3611.83 with an overall end of year balance to carry forward of £4819.33, which will enable us to offer 24 young people with the loan of an instrument and music lessons for the academic year 2021-22.
