## **THE ROTARY CLUB OF BOURNEMOUTH - YOUTH TRUST ANNUAL REPORT FOR THE YEAR ENDED 30 JUNE 2021** 

## **1. Background** 

- 1.1 The Youth Camp at Swanage was established by the Rotary Club of Bournemouth in 1930 to provide short residential breaks for deprived children and was run by members of the Club.  Since 1945, the Youth Camp has been leased to a succession of London local authorities, the current lessors being the Royal Borough of Greenwich (RBG).  From January 2007, RBG has sub-let the premises.   The current sub-tenants are Cumulus Outdoors. 

## **2. Structure & Objectives of the Charity** 

- 2.1 During 2021 the former Youth Camp Trust (Registered Charity 218908) completed its conversion to a Charitable Incorporated Organisation, the Rotary Club of Bournemouth Youth Trust, (Registered Charity 1188808).  Under the Trust Deed approved by the Charity Commission the objectives of the new charity remain largely unaltered and the five trustees remain appointed exofficio by virtue of the roles they hold as officers of the Rotary Club of Bournemouth. The Charity’s principal address is c/o The Chairman, Flat 5, 5 Adeline Road, Boscombe, Bournemouth, BH5 1EE. 

- 2.2 All trustees hold their office in an ex-officio capacity by virtue of the offices that they hold as members of the Rotary Club of Bournemouth.  The Charity's Trustees who were in office from 1 July 2020 to 30 June 2021 for both the Youth Camp Trust and the Youth Trust are listed below:-

The trustees do not claim any expenses. 

- 2.3 On 1[st] July 2021 Patricia Todd and Talbot Massey ceased to be trustees, Roy Eacups became Chairman, Jane MacDonald Styslinger became a trustee on becoming President Elect of Bournemouth Rotary Club and Carol Younger became a trustee on becoming Club Secretary. 

- 2.4 The Objectives of the Charity are to:- 

   - Administer the lease of the Youth Camp known as the Townsend Residential Centre situated at Townsend Road, Swanage, Dorset. 

   - Provide grants to charities and organisations in Bournemouth and the surrounding area in the fields of health, education and relief of poverty, primarily but not exclusively for the benefit of young people. 



## **3. Activities and Achievements in 2020 / 2021** 

- 3.1 The Trust having been formed during the year was not active until the beneficial ownership of the assets of the Rotary Club of Bournemouth Youth Camp Trust were transferred to it on 30[th] June 2021. 

- 3.2 The next five year review of the rental on the Townsend Centre is due in October 2022 when in accordance with the RPI formula specified in the lease, the rent due each year will be increased from £21,800. 

## **4. Year End position** 

- 4.1 The Trust’s Bank and COIF balances (£7,843 and £8,863), plus the COIF Global Equities Fund valuation at 30 June 2020 (£246,532), amount to £263,239, of which £110,020 is in Restricted Funds arising from a sale of surplus land. 

- 4.2 The next 5-yearly rent review falls due in October 2022.

- 5.1 The Accounts for 2020/21 form part of this Report and are attached as an Appendix.
