## **Objects of the organisation** 

To relieve the needs of women in St Helens and the surrounding areas who have complex needs, in particular, but not exclusively who suffer with mental health issues as a result from domestic abuse through the provision of information, workshops and support groups.

## Trustees' report continued 

## Review of progress and achievements 

CCC received 3268 individual service referrals for 675 women. 50% of these referrals came from GPs and the health sector and the rest came from the social and voluntary sectors as well as self-referrals and word of mouth 

We completed 496 assessments for new service users. 

We had 18 counsellors in 2021, a mix of qualified and students on placement. 212 clients attended a total of 1741 sessions 

We provided 568 Phone Support Sessions 

Empowered Women, the domestic abuse support group was attended 278 times by 52 women 

New domestic abuse survivors group, Thriving Women was accessed 110 times by 20 women 

Supported Women mental health support group was accessed 309 times by 44 women 

Creative Women therapeutic arts and crafts group was attended 308 times by 52 women 

Confident Women, confidence and assertion course was completed by 6 women 

Brave Women stress and anxiety course was completed by 6 women 

We ran several Photography & Wellbeing courses in conjunction with Adult & Community Learning. These were attended 69 times by 13 women 

We ran several Wellbeing Workshops on a range of topics including Music & Mental Health, Coercive Control, Assertiveness and Saying No and Fun, laughter and mental health. These were attended by 20 women overall. 

We completed 109 wellbeing / check-in calls 

We introduced a new group called Wise Women, this is a discussion group for women who are affected by the Menopause, offering them a safe space to share their experiences and have their voices heard. 

## Administration & Policies 

All policies were reviewed and approved at the Annual General Meeting and we introduced a new Menopause Policy 

We received funding to implement a new organisation-wide system called CharityLog which has transformed how we log and store information and enables us to keep everything within the one place. 

## Volunteer Contributions & Development 

Volunteers have been integral to our service delivery, giving us their time and skills and a number of ways. Volunteers at the Chrysalis Centre include counsellors, Support Workers, facilitators, administrators, Champions and creatives. 

Training included: Safeguarding, Equality & Diversity, LGBT+ Awareness, HIV Awareness, Team Effectiveness, Resilience Through Change and Boosting Creativity. All team members are required to complete the Freedom Programme online and the MERIT/MARAC training. 6 team members completed the Emergency First Aid at work certificate 

Jess is our LGBT+ Champion and delivered an amazing month-long social media campaign during June, which is Pride month.  Wendy's Lockdown challenge 

Wendy, a volunteer counsellor, looked after our Facebook page and set up a Lockdown Challenge group in January 2021 so we could all encourage each other to do something physical each day that made us feel good. This group then developed into sharing and supporting each other with positive mental health quotes and posts. 

Our information appeared in a pocket guide printed by Merseyside Fire & Rescue. We held a joint community engagement day in St Helens Town centre to launch the pocket guide and promote the community work of the fire service and the Chrysalis Centre services. 

We have two new volunteer Domestic Abuse Champions. Tamala and Tina have an interest in domestic abuse and a passion for supporting survivors. They both attend the fortnightly MARAC meetings, Tina has helped in the Thriving Women group, whilst Tamala represents the Chrysalis Centre at the Domestic Abuse Survivor's Forum.

## Independent examiner's report on the accounts of Chrysalis Centre for Change CiO for the year ended 31 December 2021 

I report on the accounts of the charity set out on pages 5 to 9 

## **Respective responsibilities of the Management Committee and the examiner** 

The charity's trustees are responsible for the preparation of the accounts. The charity’s trustees consider that an audit is not required for this year under section 144 of the Charities Act 2011 (the Charities Act) and that an independent examination is needed. 

It is my responsibility to: 

q         examine the accounts under section 145 of the Charities Act, 

q         to follow the procedures laid down in the general Directions given by the Charity Commission (under section 145(5)(b) of the Charities Act, and 

q         to state whether particular matters have come to my attention. 

## **Basis of Independent examiner's report** 

My examination was carried out in accordance with the general Directions given by the Charity Commission. An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the charity and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records.  It also includes consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts,  and seeking explanations  from the trustees concerning any such matters.  The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit, and consequently no opinion is given as to whether the accounts present a 'true and fair' view and the report is limited to those matters set out in the statement below. 

## **Independent examiner's statement** 

In connection with my examination, no material matters have come to my attention which gives me cause to believe that in, any material respect: 

q accounting records were not kept in accordance with section 130 of the Charities Act or q the accounts do not accord with the accounting records 

I have come across no other matters in connection with the examination to which attention should be drawn in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.

## **1 Accounting Policies** 

## **a Basis of accounting** 

The Trustees have taken advantage of section 42 (3) of the Charities Act 1993 and have prepared the accounts on a receipts and payments basis. 

## **b Taxation** 

As a registered charity the organisation benefits from rates relief and is generally exempt from income tax and capital gains tax but not from VAT. Irrecoverable VAT is included in the cost of those items to which it relates. 

## **c Fund accounting** 

Funds held by the charity are either: 

## **Unrestricted general funds** 

These are funds which can be used in accordance with the charitable objects at the discretion of the trustees. 

## **Restricted funds** 

These are funds that can only be used for particular restricted purposes within the objects of the charity. Restrictions arise when specified by the donor or when funds are raised for particular restricted purposes. 

## **Designated funds** 

These are funds set aside by the trustees out of unrestricted general funds for specific future purposes or projects.

## **Purpose of restricted funds** 

St Helens CCG have provided funding for general running costs and to provide a domestic abuse support service. 

Awards for All have funded our Wellbeing for Women Project. 

Running Costs from Noel Buxton Trust, Garfield Weston and Tillotson Bradbery. 

The National Lottery: Reaching Communities is for our Taking Flight Project which encompasses services provided as part of our Transform Your Life program, a range of groups and courses to support, empower and inspire women to create the life they want 

Police and Crime Commissioner for Merseyside: £14,000 was awarded to support the increased demand for counselling, phone support and PPE due to the impact of Covid-19. 

National Lottery Coronavirus Crisis Funding was the same as the Police and crime commission. 

## **5 Trustee remuneration and expenses** 

No trustees received any remuneration or expenses during the period. 

## **6 Related party transactions** 

Owing to the nature of the charity's activities and the composition of the board of trustees (being drawn from local statutory and voluntary organisation), it is inevitable that transactions will take place with organisations in which a trustee may have an interest.  All transactions in which a trustee may have an interest are conducted at arm's length and in accordance with the charity's financial regulations and expenditure procedures.
