SORP reference
Summary of the purposes Para 1.17 The purpose of Redeemer Grimsby
of the charity as set out is to exalt the name of Jesus Christ
in its governing through gospel-centred,
document discipleship, community &
mission. We are an elder-led
church seeking to advance the
Christian faith through regular
times of public worship, prayer &
bible study. We have a service at
11.30a.m. every Sunday morning
held in the YMCA building at 21
Freeman St., Grimsby. We have
sought to give & encourage
pastoral care & have constantly
reviewed our programme as our
duty to ‘love one another’. We
have supported charitable social
action in the local community as
several of our members continue
to work in the food kitchen. We
give monthly donations to 4
charities:- The Bible Society,
Compassion ( we support a 5 year
old boy in Ghana ), Open Door ( to
support the persecuted Church ) &
Hope for Justice ( anti-slavery &
human trafficking ). Shortly after
the beginning of Russia’s invasion
we sent a cheque of £2,000 on 13 [th]
March 2022 to the Ukraine Appeal
Fund.
Summary of the main Para 1.17 and For several months we had been
1.19
activities in relation to considering seeking more
those purposes for the appropriate premises where we
public benefit, in could meet more often & have
particular, the activities, more suitable facilities. **church, Wellowgate Chapel – a church with only 5 members & we discussed the possibility of hiring their building with a view to possible amalgamation at a later date. At a meeting of our members when 10 were present we voted unanimously to at least try & integrate the 2 churches. We held a joint meeting on 25[th] June & there was much agreement to proceed towards a trial of 4 weeks, beginning on 11[th] July. Several further meetings were required before the trial to discuss rotas, timings, joint arrangements & how we would proceed etc. Unfortunately we soon realised that Wellowgate were not totally united & one very senior member was hostile to the merger. During the trial period it became obvious that there were irreconcilable differences. On the 10[th] August Redeemer held a members meeting during in which there was a vote:- to terminate the merger, to allow more time or to unite & ignore the disunity. The result was that 11 voted to terminate & 1 voted to allow more time. On 13[th] August at a further joint meeting of the churches it was agreed that we would return to the scout hut & end the attempted merger. Two months later a brand new YMCA building opened in the very area of town where we wanted to be. After negotiations with the manager & staff we arranged to hire a room to hold our Sunday services ( at 11.30a.m. ) & also a room for 2 evenings in the week for prayer meetings & bible studies respectively. One of our members, CJ, obtained work in the kitchen there. The first service was 19[th] December & we have continued to meet every Sunday & twice during the week ever since. Due to changing circumstances our membership has fallen to 10 in number but this core group is very strong & dedicated to seeing further growth. In the time covered by this report we have held 7 members meetings ( 2 of which were with Wellowgate Chapel ). We have also had 4**
