Kings achieved Charity status in March of 2020 this is our third AGM as a CIO.
-
Kings returned to the court post covid restrictions with a bang into the British Wheelchair Basketball league season with 3 adult league teams and one junior league team, the largest amount of league teams the club has run and being the biggest club in the South East Region. We had teams in the Premier league - which is the top league in the British wheelchair basketball league structure , Division 2 and 3 South.
The Premier team has matches as far as way as Glasgow and Exeter. They played London Titians, Sheffield Steelers, CWBA (Coventry), Tess Valley Mohawks, The Owls (Oldham) Glasgow Rolling Rocks and Exeter Otters winning 3 out of 14 games scoring 568 points The Division 2 South team played matches against, Sussex Bears, Plymouth Fusion, The Bears (Warwickshire) Blackhawks (Woking), London Titians, Swansea Storm and Cardiff Met Arches winning 3 out of 14 games and scoring 542 point.
The Division 3 South team played matches against Brixton Ballers, Folkestone Arrows, Hampshire Harriers, Aylesbury Aces, Windsor Monarchs and Sussex Bears winning 9 out of 12 games scoring 513. This secured the Division 3 team a spot in the national league finals weekend as we were runners up in the South Division 3 league. The team played against Tess valley Mohawks and Brixton Ballers in the player off and finished 3[rd] overall in the Division 3 table of the weekend.
Kings junior league team played in 3 rounds of junior league against The Bears (Warwickshire), Aylesbury Aces and London Titians winning 6 of their 6 matches and scoring 371 point securing their place in Elite 8s. The played Kings met the Tees Valley Mohawks juniors in the quarter finals and after a hard fought first half, Kings where able to slowly pull ahead in the 2nd half with a solid display and took the win 61-37. In the Semi final, Kings met North Wales Knights took an early lead but the resilience of the Kings saw them fight back and the teams were 21 all at half time. Both team fought valiantly in the second half but it was Kings who opened up a sizable 12 point lead and held on to to take the win by 5 points, 54-49. This saw the junior league team go undefeated and secure themselves a place at the national league final to play against Wakfield Whirlwinds with the match broadcast on BBC Sport. Unfortunately it was not to be for a undefeated season and they took home the silver medal. We are proud of our junior players for making Kings history to be the first kings match to be broadcast by the BBC.
