## Chair person report:

- CIO - Charity incorporated organisation - Kings achieved Charity status in March of 2020, after seeking permission from the Royal Names Team, at the Cabinet Office which luckily had no objection to us continuing to use the name 'Thames Valley Kings Wheelchair Basketball Club'. This saw a change for the club from having committee members to Trustees.

- 15 years celebration - To celebrate 15 years of Kings we planned to run 15 events to celebrate this over the year. We held 6 events before Covid changed the world as we know it. We have been able to purchase the shot clocks that we had planned to fundraise for through the 15 for 15 events.

FBC opening event - 5th October 2019 Cubs with grant 12th Nov

Hampshire Santa 1st December - Josh, Steph and Petey Scouts with Jacqueline 2nd December Tesco Wokingham Collection 10th Dec broad street mail weekend 26 & 26[th] January 2020

- Division One Team -Played another amazing season, playing 10 games and winning all of them and topping the table- continuing from their back to back promotions from the previous 2 seasons. They had aces and jags left to play - if the Div 1 team had won their next game against Aces we would have won the league, gone to play offs and been prompted to premier league. Due to Covid19 the league season was cut short and we await confirmation of our promotion when league basketball returns, when it is safe to do so. Grant has continued to lead the team improving from game to game, also bringing in the expertise of The FUNdamental Coach for Therapycise **.**

The Div 1 players played against team from Jaguars, London Titians, Aces, CWBA, The Bears and Blackhawks. Scoring a massive 659 points and conceding 314 (points different 345)

Page **1** of **9** AGM Thursday 19th November 2020 Minutes

- Division Three team -With a new head Pat and assistant coach Reece the Div 3 team went out on court to carry on the battle to remain the near the top of the table for most of the season. With one game left to play against Plymouth raiders; if we won it would have been tight at the top of the table for securing a spot at the national league play offs. When the season was cut short Kings finished 2nd in the table behind Swansea Storm; Kings having played 10 matches winning 6 of them. (one game was postponed)

The Div 3 players played against teams from Swansea Storm, Plymouth Raiders, The Bears, Derby Wheelblazers , CWBA and Blackhawks. Scoring an impressive 392 points and conceding 347 (points different 45)

- Junior league team -The team played 6 games over 3 weekend of the pool stages against London Titans and Aces. Kings came 2nd in the pool stage having won 4 matches, scored 281 point, conceding 242 (points different 39). The junior league player secured a place at the Elite 8s play offs, however due to Covid-19 this was cancelled.

The junior players were also looking forward to 2 tournaments that would have taken place in the summer, Regional national Championship and School Games, if it had not been for Covid-19 putting a stop to these. Several of the Kings coaches, officials and Volunteers had been selected to coach / officiate and Volunteer at these events.

- UKWB - There was a new league in the South this year the UKWB league -kings entered a team and gave the opportunity for players to gain more court time and play with players from the Div 1 and 3 teams. It also enabled 2 of kings coaches Peter R and Denise who are normally players to lead a team. The league provided an opportunity for more court time.

- Covid-19 Response - When Covid-19 changed the world as we know it little did we know that we would not have a face to face training session for around 6 months. This is probably the longest any of our members have gone between face to face training sessions. The Trustees of Kings discussed the options that were available for online content. The volunteer coaches lead video analysis session from our league games, held rules session, a "drinks break" chat to enable players to "meet" socially online for a chat. The coaching staff remain in contact with the players weekly to check in with everyone and provide support for home work outs. When we return to training in October it was a very different set up to the last training session that was held in March. The players and coaches adapting to new ways for training following Covid-19 restrictions.

- Hall of Fame CreatedKings held their annual awards do online this year due to Covid-19 restrictions - it was a great evening to celebrate the sucess of the club members, volunteers and supports over the season. A Hall of fame award was created to co-inside with our 15 years celebration and was awarded to Joe Humphreys.

Page **2** of **9** AGM Thursday 19th November 2020 Minutes

- Fundraisers - Following the news of my breast cancer diagnosis in December 2019 - the players lead by Joe Humphreys completed an amazing challenge completing 340 miles over 7 days. A big thank you to everyone who took part and did their miles bringing in a grand total of 393 miles and just under £1000 to be split between kings and Breast cancer now.

A massive Thank you to everyone how has helped out with the club over the last year, it’s made a big difference. The club is run by 100% volunteer time; thank you to the Trustee, table officials and those that help out on match days. Thank you to the coaching volunteers Grant, Pat, Peter R, Reece and Denise who give up so much of their time to coach. A massive thank you also to Peter S for all his hard work on the social media front for raising Kings profile, and for the times when i couldn't do what I normally do for stepping in and helping out. Thank You to you all for making Kings what it is today.

## Chair person report:

- Kings achieved Charity status in March of 2020 this is our second AGM as a CIO.

- The world as we knew it changed it March of 2020 and this is the first year since Kings entered the League that we have not had competitive league games. We also did not hold our annual awards do due to Covid restrictions and the lack of the league achievements to celebrate. With Lockdown / Covid-19 restrictions easing we have entered Kings into the BWB league season which is due to start in October 2021. We are proud to announced the we have been entered in the Premier league - which is the top league in the British wheelchair basketball league structure - we have had back to back to back promotions for this team from Division 3, to div 2 to div 1. We also have good news in that our division 3 team have been promoted to division 2 and we will have 3 adult league team this year also entering a Division 3 team. We will continue to also have a junior league team.

- We have not been able to carry on with our celebrations for 15 years of Kings due to Covid restrictions as we had hoped to raise awareness of the club - however during lockdown we had 15 player on our waiting list who wanted to join the club and they have all be invited along to a training session and a number of them have joined the club including some new young junior players.

- Covid-19 Response - When Covid-19 changed the world as we knew it last year little did we know that we would not have a face to face training session for around 6 months and 2 further lockdowns and restrictions on our returning to training - including not being able to pass for each other for such a long time at team training. The players and coaches have continued to adapted well to training under the different and changing covid restrictions - but also enjoyed the opportunity to have a questions and answer session with Terry Bywater, and Gregg Warburton from the GB men's team and Steve Serio from the USA men's team.

- we are also thankful to the Co-op for selecting us as one of their charities of the year this year and raising funds for the club.

Page **6** of **9** AGM Thursday 19th November 2020 Minutes

Thanks also to Grant for arranging for the GB and USA mens players to talk to the members of Kings.
