ANNUAL REPORT 2023-24
OBJECTIVES
Dorchester Family Support (DFS) was formed to support families with children on pupil premium (free schools meals) with food parcels during the Summer and Christmas School Holidays. DFS registered as a charity in March 2020.
ACTIVITIES DURING 2023-24
In Summer 2023 we distributed food to 232 families. We provide enough food to feed a family of 4 (larger families receive 2 packs) one main meal for 5 days of the week. Families can select from a wide range of food to suit their needs. At Christmas 2023 we distributed a Christmas hamper of treats and food staples to 247 families.
RESERVE POLICY
Our reserves at March 2024 are higher than we would normally expect due to several large grants being awarded in the summer of 2023 which were too late to use for our summer distribution. At least £15,000 of these will not be repeated in 2024 and therefore we expect our reserves in March 25 to be less.
INVESTMENT
As our reserves are higher than normal we are exploring moving the surplus into a deposit account with CAF bank.
INSURANCE
Insurance cover has been arranged with Ansvar Insurance and includes Public Liability.
RISK ASSESSMENTS
These are carried out prior to each event involving the distributing of parcels.
INCOME
Principally from grant making organisations such as Awards for All, The Valentine Trust, The Alice Ellen Cooper Dean Trust, churches and public donations. Total income just under £23000.
EXPENDITURE
Principally on the provision of food. We helped more families this year and our total spend in 23-24 was £35,323.12.
POLICIES
Policies have been produced covering Safeguarding, Child Protection, Volunteer Code of Conduct, Complaints, Data Protection, Data Retention, Equal Opportunities, Health & Safety, Trustee Code of Conduct, Whistleblowing, Volunteer, Financial Management and Social Media.
