**Commission on public benefit)**|_Nottinghamshire Wildlife Trust [CC no. 224168]_
Nottinghamshire Wildlife Trust is the leading wildlife conservation
charity working to protect and enhance the wildlife and habitats of
Nottinghamshire. Metamorphosis Foundation’s base is in
Nottinghamshire and the trustees took an early strategic decision after
the charity was established to contribute to conservation initiatives
within our local environment. To that end in the past we have supported
the reintroduction of beavers to Nottinghamshire, purchased an electric
boat to facilitate access for staff and researchers managing the beaver
enclosure and provided funding to support habitat improvement for
turtle doves and waders at the Idle Valley Reserve. In 2024/25
Metamorphosis Foundation granted the funds for the Trust to purchase
a John Deere tractor from the Environment Agency, which has been a
critical asset in a five-year project to improve and increase reed beds at
Attenborough Nature Reserve. As the project was coming to an end the
Trust faced losing the tractor which has had a transformational impact
at the local reserves. The grant will enable the team’s excellent work
maintaining the habitat for multiple species to continue.
Public benefit from this project comes through NWT’s work managing
nature reserves, engaging, advising, inspiring and educating people to
create a richer natural world for present and future generations.
_The Southern African Wildlife College [SAWC] _based on the western
edge of the Kruger National Park, South Africa opened to students in
1997 and is now a recognised centre of specialisation in conservation
education, training and skills development. It is closely linked to the
Peace Parks Foundation [founded by President Nelson Mandela, Dr
Anton Rupert & Prince Bernard of the Netherlands]. To date SAWC has
trained over 23,500 students from over 60 countries across a wide
range of conservation related subjects. The College’s activities are
exactly aligned with the objectives of Metamorphosis.
Bursary funding was provided for 2 students on the Natural Resource
management short course programme & 11 additional students across
a range of programmes [guiding/ranger/youth access bridging
programmes]. Two of the trustees visited SAWC in 2024 to give
additional clarity on support need, governance - especially meeting the
students - and risk management issues. The trustees were also able to
see the “Bite Suit” in action - an essential piece of staff protective
equipment when training anti-poaching dogs - which had been
purchased with a Metamorphosis grant. The trustees were provided
with regular updates on student progress and very detailed end of year
academic and financial reports to assist with governance. SAWC is
audited by Price Waterhouse Cooper [PWC] & we were provided with
the full audited accounts.
Further bursary funding is planned for the 2025 intake.
In terms of public benefit the key elements are the protection and
enhancement of the environment and wildlife for future generations as
the student graduates pursue their careers.| |---|---| 3 You **may choose** to include further statements, where relevant, about: - policy on grantmaking; - policy programme related investment; - contribution made by volunteers. _The Tracker Academy[TA]_ based in Graff Reinett in South Africa, trains disadvantaged rural people as professional wildlife trackers for deployment in the conservation and ecotourism industries. It is a subsidiary of the South African College for Tourism [and audited through that] & operates under the auspices of the Peace Parks Foundation [see above]. TA was established in 2010 and takes on 32 students a year [from over 3000 applicants]. Half the students are training as Lodge Trackers [for the Ecotourism Sector] and half as Conservation Guardians - including a more paramilitary training component - for work in the anti-poaching sector. 94.75% of Tracker graduates are employed in the conservation industry. The trustees are familiar with TAs work having previously met a number of TA graduates in conservation settings in Southern Africa & have been supporting Tracker Academy since 2022. Bursary funding was provided in 2024 for 2 students on the 12 month Tracker Skills programme & 2 students training as Conservation Guardians. Two of the trustees visited TA’s new Sandringham training site in 2024, met 2 of the funded bursary students & their lead trainer, spending time observing their training and evaluation directly. Separately we met one of our former supported students who is now employed in the greater Kruger and were delighted to learn that his income enables him to support 12 members of his family. This is not an uncommon situation and demonstrates the impact of the support we provided far beyond “just” obtaining a qualification. Two trustees also attended the 2024 students’ graduation ceremony which took place at the South African College of Tourism and met all 4 students we had supported. This proved very helpful in getting a personal insight into their backgrounds, course experiences and hopes for the future. We have subsequently learned that all 4 have now secured jobs in conservation related work. One other significant benefit of attending the graduation was that we met a number of other donors & other organisations associated with Tracker Academy and SATC. They were full of praise for the college, its ethos, governance and the quality of the students graduating - independent feedback that is otherwise hard to obtain. Further funding has been offered for 2 Conservation Guardian students & 2 Female Tracker students in the 2025 intake. The training of more female trackers reflects a determination of TA to improve access for women to conservation roles and is supported by the successes of previous female graduates working at leading lodges . In terms of public benefit the key elements are the protection and enhancement of the environment and wildlife for future generations as the student graduates pursue careers in the conservation sector. _Wildlife Vets International [CC no. 1109670]_ Wildlife Vets International exists to apply specialist veterinary expertise to animal conservation projects, worldwide. WVI provides support for training of local vets and field biologists, undertake research, investigate disease, assist with project planning and works in conjunction with NGOs and local communities to promote the conservation of rare and endangered species and their habitats. A grant was provided for a Wildlife vet to attend a Wildlife Capture Course - skills that she will need in her new position supervising the reintroduction of Lions to Gabon, West Africa. The public benefit arises from assisting with the conservation of rare and endangered species and their habitats worldwide, in particular, but not exclusively, by the provision of veterinary services. 4 Section D Achievements and performance |**Summary of the main**

longer term fundraising. The trustees have continued spreading the word
about the charity through personal contacts, speaking engagements

the base for a longer term fund giving the trustees and some of their
regular grantees more future visibility for support. In the meantime we
