Darlington & District Talking Newspaper

Chairman & Trustees Report 2024

As some people already know, this is my last AGM as a trustee. It’s been a joy and privilege to be working for the Darlington and District Talking Newspaper and it’s been a difficult decision, but due to other commitments, I’m unable to devote the time the job deserves.

Our listener numbers remain constant at about 50 CDs / memory sticks a week. Which together with a few online listeners makes our efforts worthwhile.

Last year I commented that our offices provide a safe working environment, but we shouldn’t become complacent about Health and Safety and I’m still a bit concerned about people working alone, especially outside normal working hours.

If you didn’t already know, 2025 is the 200th anniversary of the Stockton and Darlington Railway, and we are working towards getting some interviews organised with “railway people” and perhaps do some outside broadcasts.

As a charity, we are totally dependent on donations and fundraising to keep the organisation running and we have raised money at ASDA and Darlington Football Club. We now have a portable card reader, so there’s no excuse for not donating!

A.E. Burt’s, our landlord, continue to be generous too and we thank them for their support.

We have received donations for talks given to various organisations throughout the year and started to record Darlington Borough Councils Housing Connect magazines in addition to the One Darlington magazines and the Hippodrome.

Our thanks go to our new auditor, Ray Morris, for examining the accounts for 2024.

This report, together with the Treasurers will be submitted to the Charity Commission as a full and detailed account of the work of the Association in 2024.

Finally, on behalf of the Committee of the Trustees I should like to thank all of our volunteers for their valuable work – it’s good to see so many people attend our Coffee mornings!
