The trustees present their report and accounts for the year ended 31 October 2025
The accounts have been prepared on the receipts and payments basis in accordance with section 133 of the
Charities Act 2011.
Structure. governance and management
The charity wa5 registered as a charitable incorporated organisation on 10 March 2020. number 1188439.

The management of the charity is the responsibiltty of the trustees who are appointed Ljnder the
constitution of the CIO. There must be at least three trbStee5 and new trustees are appointed by
resolution passed at a properly convened rneeting of the charity trustees.
New trustees receNe tr31ning from the existin8 t￿jSte￿. There is no formal training prograrrme,
T￿e trustees determène the policy, strategy and prioritie5 for the charrty. The trustees liaise c105ely with the
riend5 of the Windmill Hill Windllrill whsch is a group of volunteers who rnanage the operation,
maintenance and fundraising artivities.
The trustees take advice from Sussex MiSls Group and othèr organisations and 4ndiwduals with specialist
windmill knowled£e.
The charity had thè following transactions with related p3rtie5 during the ¥ear.' Mrs B Frost, spouse of Dr P E
Frost, reimbursement for items purchased on behalf of the charity £43.12. In total, a further amo*Jnt of
£269.29 paid out erroneously was fully reimbLtrsed during the year.
No remuneration was paid to trustees during the year.
The trustees have assessed the rnajor risks to which the charity is exposed, and are satisfied that system5 are
in place to mitigate exposure to the major risks.
Objectives and activities
The charity's principal objects during thÈ yoar were the advancement Df education for the public benefit by
111 the restoration, preservation, operation, and improvement of the windtnill at Windmill Hill, East Sussex,
BN27 4RT; and121 the provysion of public access to the wtndmill and the encouragement of the study of the
windmill by the public.
The trustees have paid due regard to guidance issued by the Charity Comm15sion in decidin8 what artivitie
he charity Should undertake.

Between 1st November 2024 and 31st Ottober 2025, the windrnill had 551 visitOTS 1459 adults and 92
children). The mill was open to the public on 20," April and then on every Sunday and Bank Holiday Monday
until the end of September. This included Mills Day in May and the National Garden Schewe Parish Trail in
lune.
Additionally, we had three school visits, several small groups and local orgaDi5ations. We expanded the range
Oi activities at the windmill, holding three sourdough workshops. two basket weaving workshops, a children's
activity afternoon and two musÈcal recitals. Altogether. we welcomed a total of 333 other visitors1195 adult51
1138 children).

The outer roundhouse has been refurbished with a new kitchen area and cupboards.

Regular general maintenance ha5 continued throughout the year. Special projects include making cvpboards
with new plumbing in the outer roundhouse, repairing ihe iinc panel that had come loose. and volunteers
took the opportunity to inspect all panels and replace nails and screws a5 required. Sweeps are regularly
turned and inspected to check all rn￿ng parts.

..Jur production using electrically powered rni115tones is now e5toblished at the windmill. During 2024125
the team produced 174 1.5kg bags of wholemeal flour and 66 1.5k8 bags of white. Total income from flodr
sales wa5 £952.90
Financial review
Reserves Policy.. The Trustees continue to be aware of the necessity to make annual reserve5. In order for
the periodic maintenance of the fabric of the mill to be undertzken, in view of its large structure, the
Trustee5 consider that unrestricted funds not des18nated for a specific use should be built up to at least
£20,000. Additional reserves of £2.500 or higher per annurn also need to be accumulated to cover the costs
Oi replacing the sweeps and stocks every 15-20 years. At present, income less expenditure does not give the
luxury of implernenting this but the Trustees hope that with the assistance of the friend5 of the Windmill Hill
Windmill, innovative expanding of income sources will result favourobly.
