## **Governance and management** 

The charity is operated under the rules of its CIO Foundation Constitution adopted 2nd March 2021. 

New trustees are usually recruited as part of the AGM or during the year with the agreement (vote) of the trustees. 

## **Objectives and activities** 

The objects of the CIO are: 

For the public benefit to promote the education of children and young people on the subject of the Polish language, culture, geography, history, religion and tradition, in particular but not exclusively by providing a supplementary Polish Saturday school in Derby. 

## **Public benefit statement** 

The Trustees confirm that they have complied with the duty in section 17 of the Charities Act 2011 to have due regard to the Charity Commission's general guidance on public benefit, 'Charities and Public Benefit'.

## **Summary of the main activities undertaken for the public benefit** 

1. Renting appropriate premises for children to learn in safe and comfortable conditions; 

2. Employing suitably qualified teaching staff to teach children and young people of different ages; 

3. Ensuring high standards of teaching to enable the young people to take their GCSE and A-Level examinations; 

4. Encouraging parental involvement in their children’s education; 

5. Employing appropriate administrative staff; 

6. Raising the local profile of the school and helping Polish children and parents to integrate with the English community; 

7. Raising funds; 

8. Co-operating with other Polish organisations in the UK and in Poland; 

9. Organising workshops for parents and teachers. 

## **Summary of the main achievements during the period** 

   1. Renting appropriate premises for children to learn in safe and comfortable conditions. The school had 213 students from 4 to 16 years of age in the academic year 2024/25. Through the years, they are prepared for the GCSE and A-Level exams; 

   2. Applying for various grants to help keep the school fees down; grants awarded for the purchase of textbooks and equipment for the school. 

   3. Employing suitably qualified teaching staff to teach children and young people of different ages; 

   4. Providing further training for our teachers by signposting courses and webinars; 

   5. Employment of volunteers; 

   6. Encouraging parental involvement in their children’s education; 

   7. Working with the local community and Polish parish.

## **Derby Polish Supplementary School** 

Our school encourages not only parents to be involved with the school but also has 3 to 5 volunteers a year helping on a regular basis in the classrooms. 

The principal source of income is parental contributions. As a charity, the parents have the assurance that all the income is used for educational purposes. 

We also encourage parent groups to help organise fund raising activities within the school and outside of the school. 

The Trustees regularly review the finances together with a termly cash flow analysis. 

## **The charity’s policy on reserves** 

We aim to maintain a positive bank account balance.

## **Independent Examiner’s Report to the Trustees of the Derby Polish School** 

I report to the Charity Trustees on my examination of the accounts of the Trust for the year ended 31 August 2025. 

## **Responsibilities and basis of report** 

As the Board of Trustees of the Trust you are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance with the requirements of the Charities Act (Northern Ireland) 2008 (the ‘2008 Act’) and the Charities Act 2011 (‘the 2011 Act’). You are satisfied that the accounts of the Trust are not required by charity law to be audited and have chosen instead to have an independent examination. In preparing those financial statements the Board is required to: 

- select suitable accounting policies and then apply them consistently; 

- make judgements and estimates that are reasonable and prudent; 

- prepare the financial statements on the going concern basis unless it is inappropriate to presume that the charity will continue in business; 

- state whether applicable accounting standards and statements of recommended practice have been followed, subject to any material departures disclosed and explained in the financial statements. 

## **Independent examiner’s statement** 

I have completed my examination. I confirm that no matters have come to my attention in connection with my examination giving me cause to believe that in any material respect: 

1. accounting records were not kept as required by section 63 of the 2008 Act and section 130 of the 2011 Act; or 

2. the accounts do not accord with those records; or 

3. the accounts do not comply with the accounting requirements of the 2008 Act and the 2011 Act; or 

4. the accounts do not comply with the applicable requirements concerning the form and content of accounts set out in the Charities (Accounts and Reports) Regulations 2008 other than any requirement that the accounts give a ‘true and fair view which is not a matter considered as part of an independent examination. 

I confirm that there are no other matters to which your attention should be drawn to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.
