Thank you all for joining us at this our sixth Annual General Meeting of the Downham Market Men's Shed. It is a pleasure to see so many familiar faces and some new members as well. Our club continues to grow, reflecting the importance and value of the Shed movement.

More members wanting to joining the club is brilliant but leads sometimes to a dangerous lack of room in the workshop. It being the main reason for complaints from members. This is being addressed by the building of the wood store between the buildings and return of the portacabin to being our rest area for socialising and non-stop tea breaks. We have to thank Martin F, councillor Andy Bullen and Mike Reynolds of MRC construction for laying the roofing felting on the store.

When the wood is removed from the portacabin it will need a new floor covering laid, a bench removed, the hot water system sorting out and a jolly good clean.

The other major project last year was to changed the toilet from what can only be described as the black hole of Calcutta to a clean and tidy disabled friendly toilet which we owe to ourselves and our members, the Masons generously gave us a grant towards the remodelling costs and thanks to John Downing and Peter Allen for their help with arranging this.

The next pressing problem we have to overcome is dust extraction or the lack of it. As we are not serious manufacturers we don’t make that much saw dust and with warmer weather we have both doors open and most of the dust is blown away. Regardless of this we must have a dust extraction system working before the colder weather returns. To this end we have already purchased the extractor unit but what we need now is an outside shelter for it to stand in and the overhead pipe work to connect it to each machine.

On the social side, we had an a very successful outside visit last year to the Norwich tank museum which John Downing organised and we have an upcoming outside visit to look forward to, to the Shuttle-worth Collection in September so thank you John.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank the Committee for their help and support throughout the year. Like the rest of the club, the Committee all have their individual talents and helped in different ways without which the club would be a poorer place and I would be run off my feet.

Also I thank all the members for the great atmosphere and the comradely I believe we have. It isn’t just bug and bird boxes we make but lasting friendships and a support network that make a real difference.

I would also like to thank Chloe and the Eternity Church for their help and support of our club, we are really appreciative of it.

Unfortunately all good things have to come to an end and for me leaving DMMS when my house sells will be a sad day. I can say I’ve really enjoyed being a member here and made many good friends who I will miss seeing, perhaps I could visit next time you have a BBQ.
