Chairman’s Report 2023
Thank you all for joining us at this our fifth Annual General Meeting of the Downham Market Men's Shed. It is a pleasure to see so many familiar faces and some new members as well.
To support our increase in membership it is pleasing to report the following projects have been completed in the past year
-
Security lights have been installed on the front and side of the building, which have proved especially useful for seeing our way to the Shed on dark evenings during the winter
-
A replacement wood lathe has been purchased and installed and along with a safety helmet and improved lighting should encourage members to enjoy woodturning.
-
A heater has been purchased and installed in the portacabin to make going to the loo a more pleasant experience as well as provide frost protection. Plans are in place to upgrade this whole facility to provide a mess facility & w/c suitable for all members. As part of this a walkway connecting the building has been installed to enable wheelchair access.
-
The temporary water and waste connections have been replaced by permanent underground pipes.
-
Additionally, we have constructed a metal shed and donated it to Eternity Church, next door, to enable them to have a secure waterproof storage space for tables & chairs
Thanks go to all those members who have taken part in these projects alongside outside contractors.
On the social side, we had an a very successful outside visit last year to the RAF Museum at Marham which John Downing and Trevor Woodruff arranged. Also, a successful Christmas lunch at the Downham Garden Centre, organized by John.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank the Committee for their help and support throughout the year. Like the rest of the club, the Committee all have their individual talents and helped in different ways without which the club would be a poorer place and I would be run off my feet. Also I thank all the members for the great atmosphere and the comradely I believe we have. It isn’t just bug and bird boxes we make but lasting friendships and a support
network that make a real difference. I would also like to thank Eternity Church for their help and support of our club.
